Teeth Whitening

Hi Ladies! I want to whiten my teeth for the wedding, but I'm not sure which way to go about it. Does any one have an great at home products they would recommend? Do you think its worth it to get it professionally done?? I want to start it semi soon, with the showers and other events coming up in the next few months.

Who else is getting their teeth whitened for the wedding?

Thanks!

Re: Teeth Whitening

  • I'm doing an at home blend since I don't have the money to get my teeth professionally done.

I usually just do Crest white strips about 1 1/2 months before something big and then just do a few here and there.  For me they've always worked to make a noticeable difference.
I've heard about making a baking soda paste and putting that on your teeth for a few minutes before you brush but I've never tried it.

  • I've been gargling with hydrogen peroixde for the past couple of weeks and have already noticed a difference. I brush my teeth first then gargle a cap full of hydrogen peroixde then use my regular mouth wash.
  • I've used Crest white strips and definitely notice a difference.

I've also done whitening with custom trays and whitening gel provided by my dentist.  It was free, so I figured what the hell :)

The stuff I got from my dentist definitely worked faster and I saw more of a difference, but if cost is a factor I think the Crest white strips are a great cost-effective alternative.

<div>I've never heard of using Hydrogen peroxide, I like that idea! Ive tried the crest white strips before, I may try them again. Money isnt a huge factor, but i also dont want to pay alot of money to get it professionally done, if something at home will work just as well. Thanks ladies!</div>

  • My FIL's are my dentists so they are taking care of me (and FI). I've never done it before or done any home kits.

  • I talked to my dentist and they said, that the younger you are the better results you can get form Crest White Strips. So I'm going to use them. THey said Icould get a professional whitten, but they said they prefer I be a bit older for that. IDK how old you are but if you are close to 22, you might just want the strips to safe money

Please don't do this for long!
Hydrogen peroxide like that can erode your teeth, cause "hairy tongue" which makes eating VERY painful and can lead to loss of taste, and even make swallowing difficult.   Also, don't swallow it.

  • I have used Rembrant 2 hour white about every six months for the past four years. It is the only whitening product I have ever used and the results are quick and long lasting for me. I have found that there are usually 5$ off cupons on Rembrant's website too, so I get it for around 20$.

  • I have used the cvs brand whitening strips and they actually work really well. I think I will use those twice before the wedding. I want to the system goes for 14 days.
  • I am going to whiten mine. I have a dentist appointment this week, so I will talk w/them and see what they recommend

  • The Crest White Strips work really well. There has been a $7 off coupon in the paper the past couple weeks.  I'm going to buy them this week.

  • I went to the dentist a few weeks ago and asked about whitening. She said that your teeth can only get as white as your teeth naturally are. She also said that white strips are just as effective as professional ("Zoom") whitening. The only difference is the "Zoom" is one time and then you just have to maintain it, and crest strips take longer because you have to use them everyday. I use Crest 2 hour Express (not blown away by the results), regular Crest Whitestrips, and I have been brushing my teeth with hydrogen peroxide before I brush with regular toothpaste. Hydrogen peroxide is the main whitening agent in whitstrips and I was told by a friend that it works to brush with it. I only do it once a day (usually in the morning after coffee) and sometimes I skip days in between because I was nervous of how bad it was to do that. And now Megan has said it's not great... Haha. I pinned something on Pinterest a few weeks ago that said mix salt and lemon juice and rinse (?) with that. I haven't tried that yet though. I might end up getting the custom trays with gel from my dentist, or just stick with the at home strips and tricks.

  • In the past, the Crest whitening strips have mde my teeth really sensitive, is that common with most whitening treatments/products? Or does it vary depending on the person?

  • I'm getting mine done professionally. I haven't had great luck with at home products
  • I bought a groupon and got my teeth professionally whitened by the dentist this fall. Oh.My.God. it was soo painful. I don't have sensitive teeth and I couldn't believe how much my teeth hurt. It felt like all of my teeth had been chipped and the nerves were exposed to the cold air. I had to get a prescription for pain meds that afternoon because I couldn't take it. It was much better by the next day but I'll never do that again. My teeth didn't get much whiter either. I wouldnt recommend it to any of my friends. I think I'm going to try to do the white strips a month or so before the wedding.

Oh and the dentist was legit--they're the "official dentist of the MN Vikings" so I'm sure it was a normal product they used and my teeth just are super sensitive now.

FI also got his done by his dentist and they did the Zoom whitening on him. He said it was also painful but they gave him a to-go kit afterwards and can do more applications closer to the wedding. But it definitely worked really well for him!

  • I have used Crest White Strips in the past and they work great. They can cause major sensativity though so be careful. I used to work at a dental office so I have tried TONS of at home professional bleaches. I highly recommend Opalescence (just call around to dentist offices and find out who carries it). It it WAY cheaper than in-office bleaching and once you have the trays made it just a matter of buying more bleach to touch up every once in a while. Opalescence has GREAT results with little to no sensativity associated with it.

  • Regarding hydrogen peroxide: a dilute version of it is fine for your teeth which is why it's ok to use have it in toothpaste.  However it on it's own is bad.
