We got married in May 2009 and booked our venue around Aug 2008.

We booked probably 13 months ahead? If places you like are filling up already, it's def. not too early to book. It seems like 10-12 months is average.

The church we had to book early cause it is a historical mission and getts booked up to 2 years in advanced.  So we booked in Jan 08 for a May 09 wedding.  From there I was on a roll so I booked the reception venue very soon after (can't remember exactly when).  I will say that I have had second thoughts on the venue more than once since I didn't have an idea for the look of the wedding when I booked the venue and now I wonder if it was the right choice.  When I booked I was looking at price and the amount of people it accomodated.  It is pretty but I wonder if I should've picked sometthing else. I don't think it's to early to book now.  That way you have time to look around and since you are set on your date you can find something without needing to be flexible with date.

Honestly, I would call around until you found about 3 different venues with your date open, go visit them WITH your FI, then make a decision together.

We booked ours in early July of 2007but when we started looking in may of 2007 a lot of places were already booked up for a September of 2008 wedding.

I booked mine March '09 for Feb '10.  So it was a little less then a year.  I haven't once had second thoughts, but I looked at (meaning actually scheduled an appt and went down to look at the pricing and the venue) probably 6-7 venues before I decided.  So when I picked mine, I was confident about pricing around my area and what exactly I wanted.  It's definitly not too early to book if you are sure that's the one you want.  Now, if you don't know for sure, keep looking, you may keep coming back to this one and decide it really is the one or you may find one you like better.  Book it when you are ready!

We booked our venue in mid-January. Our wedding is June 26, 2010. It's definitely not too early to book your venue (especially since your date is during the typical wedding season).

We booked in May 2008 and were married in May 2009. A lot of venues we looked at were already booked on our date - but somehow we lucked out on the one we wanted most. So once you've decided, I would say the earlier the better!

We booked April 2008 for August 2009, so 16 months ahead? You have to remember that your date is in prime wedding season, so venues are going to book up pretty quickly.

We found it a little less than a year ahead (by a couple weeks).  A week or two later we put down the deposit.

We booked 12 months in advance for a San Francisco hotel location- a lot of dates were already booked when we were looking for September 2009.

We booked our venue in August 09 for a November 10 wedding...so about 15 months in advance. We probably could have waited, but we knew that we wanted to have our wedding there so we didn't see any point in waiting.

We booked ours about 13 months ahead. I would try and decide/books yours asap -- a lot of venues book 12-18 months in advance, especially for Saturdays during the summer.

thanks ladies! We've visited probably 6 locations, all with appointments, and have 3 more this weekend. Hoping we'll feel confident about one of them after this...thanks!

We booked 7 months in advance - and yes it was a bit difficult finding a date that we wanted and was still available. It was doable, but not easy.

We booked about 13.5 months in advance and a lot of places were booked and we were looking in November, which is not a prime wedding month.

We booked in March 2009 and our wedding date is set for September 25, 2009. We have a long engagement but wanted to book our reception and church quickly. September is a busy wedding month in Sacramento with all the nasty heat in August and July.
