How many breaks are normal for a band?

Hi Everyone, I'm looking over my reception band contract and I noticed in the small print that the band is entitled to a 20 min break for every hour they play. I'm hiring them for 4 hours, so that's a full hour that they will be on break in total. That seems like a lot of time to me. Is that normal? Thanks, Ali

ours took 2 short breaks ( one during cake cutting)  and one long break for dinner.  we worked out the times on the schedule for the evening.

Our musician normally takes one fifteen minute break per hour.  We just scheduled toasts and cake-cutting for the first break, and serving the cake for the second one.

Our band contract said they were to have a 15 min break every hour.  However, they worked with us to arrange it so that they took 1/2 hour while everyone was eating so they could play 2 hours straight while everyone was dancing later and we filled in the other gaps with events (cake cutting, bouquet toss, etc) as someone else mentioned above.  It still flowed nicely, I never even noticed the times the band took a break.
