NWR Poll

I just had a big meeting with everyone incredibly concerned about swine flu.  Granted I work in healthcare, but it hasn't really hit MA just yet.  Everyone is trying to get ready and is freaking out about it here.  What's it like in everyone else's area?  Going through it, getting ready, not concerned?  Just curious, is anyone planning on getting the shot for it?

Re: NWR Poll

  • I started taking this stuff called vitamineral green with my FI about a year ago and we have not been sick once..(and I usually get sick three times a year minimum) so I am not that concerned about it..not to mention I wash my hands often, etc.  I did hear about people wearing masks in my area, etc. though.  Hmmm...  Oh, and I am not getting the shot.  I HATE flu shots!

  • It is bad in TX. My aunt had it a few weeks ago and so couldn't come to the wedding... now my cousin has it. There was a little girl who died from it a few days ago - and she had no preexisting medical conditions. People aren't freaking out like they were a couple of months ago... but it is definitely for real in DFW and people are being careful. Nobody at work has had it yet... fingers crossed it stays away from me! I am cranky when I am sick!
  • I'm one of the ones that don't get sick. Maybe my fall season allergies get my airways so congested that prevents flu from coming in...heheheheI got the shot last year, but I will probably not get either the regular flu or swine flu shot, this year. Here in MD things are calm about the flu...when it first started back in  April/May they were a few cases, but you don't hear anything about it anymore.FI's mom got it two weeks ago, but she is fine now. I was in MI by that time and I didn't get it, so I'm not very concern about it anymore.FI on the other hand...he is kinda freaking out about not getting sick for the trip or the wedding day....he is driving me nuts about it :-)
  • I'm not too concerned and no one I know is either. I'm definately not getting the flu shot or the swine flu shot...never have, never will. There doesn't seem to be too much concern in ID or WA (we're really close to the border).
  • I work in a hospital in St. Louis and we have to get the regular flu shot every year.  Last year 4 people were fired because they didn't get it and did not provide proof of one of the "exceptions" (religious, health, etc.). Right now we're just waiting to see how everything develops and how much of the Swine Flu vaccine is available.  If it's limited, non-clinicians like myself may not have to get it.  I hope that's the case because I hate shots! We've had a couple cases of patients and physicians coming down with Swine Flu, but it doesn't seem like anybody is really freaking out about it. The Children's Hospital has set up temporary tents in their parking garage to handle overflow from flu cases, but it's still just for preparedness and hasn't been needed just yet.

  • I haven't heard much about swine flu here in Chicago.  Then again, with the Olympic announcement coming today, that's all that has been on the news for weeks.  lol  I don't generally get the flu shot and I won't get one this year.  I do get the flu shot for dd, though, since she was a preemie and it's recommended by her doc.  I'm not going to do the swine flu shot for her, though.  We don't take her out much during flu season and we're definitely overly-cautious about germs as far as she's concerned.  I'm not worried.
  • I haven't really thought of taking any precautions event though I should try.  I'm getting my flue shot next week that's as far as I've gotten.  I will be washing my hands repeatedly and bringing santizer with me everywhere.  Also, just trying to stay home and away from high public areas.
  • Two teenage girls died in Baltimore this week of the Swine Flu.  So I would have to disagree with Normailed on this one.  However, I don't feel like we've been inundated with news like in the spring.  I'm not worried but am being a little more cautious, ie. using hand santizer more often.   Today I heard that they think 90% of the flu's are swine.  Not sure if I believe that.
  • It's in full swing here in N.C.! Everyone is infected, the schools, jobs...everywhere. The dr. offices are actually telling people NOT to come in if they think they have it because it will spread it more. We're contagious here big time.
  • We're definitely getting hit in Alaska. We've had several kiddos die from it recently. I'm in Public Health so of course I hear about it every day.I'm definitely getting the vaccination, mostly to protect the kids I work with.
  • There isn't much hype about it right now in Ontario. We get the usual radio and tv commercials about how to prevent the spread of infection (wash your hands, cover your mouth, stay home when sick, etc) but that's about it.   I haven't heard of anyone getting it or dying from it in a while although I rarely watch the news... so I may just be oblivious to it.
