March 2012 Weddings

Monopoly Money

I recently had our last meeting with our coordinator who told me, "Yep- towards the end, with all the extra unaccounted for spending, you feel like you are just throwing around Monopoly money". Too true. :(

We have paid off:
Coordinator
Flowers
DJ
Venue (omg yay!)
Photo
Video
Framing for E-Pic
Cake
Caterers
Musicians
Attire
Hotel Rooms
Honeymoon
BM/GM gifts
Liquor
Cups

Oh dear, I feel like there's likely more, but we still need to pay the remaining on our officiant and our drink mixer.

Sheesh. Just 24 more days!! Anybody have any pending vendors/items to finish off?

Re: Monopoly Money

  • Most of our bills aren't due until 2 weeks before the wedding, so while I have deposits on pretty much everything, the main ones I have to pay that day are the venue, cake, DJ, photographer, and string trio.  The limo will be charged to my credit card a couple of days before the wedding.

I do still need to buy the guest 'tree' print and work on programs.  And I need to get paper to cut up for 'well wishes' that we're having people put in a box with a bottle of champagne in it.

That's a lot of stuff! I know we are spending a ton of money, but that's awesome that all that stuff is already done!

We have paid off the venue (finally!) which was only second to the caterer. We are having less people than we budgeted for so everything will likely be a little cheaper than we originally thought.

    Paid off:

    Venue
    Photographer
    DJ
Honeymoon (we booked it so it's technically paid for!)
    Attire

    Need to pay:

    Bakery
    Florist
    Caterer
    Photobooth
Probably other things I can't remember now

    32 days!!
  • I was given some good advice by my aunt who just had a daughter get married last summer.  She said to make sure you have about 200 dollars set back for the week of the wedding.  You will be surprised at all the little things you have to pay for such as lighters for candles, or any extra little things you want to add to the decorations, etc.

  • I just want to pay everyone NOW!  so that way I can just enjoy the day.  But I figure that's probably not a great idea - Just in case someone doesn't show up or whatever.  I guess I'm just a worry wart thinking that they might be like oh we got our money no need to do any work!

But I did pay for the ceremony, still need to tip the officant.
    Hotel is paid for/flights
    Honeymoon
    Hair and Makeup

    Still need to pay for:
    Photographer - day of
    Limo - day of
reception  dinner - 3 days prior
My wedding band - it's still not done yet :( Hopefully with in the next two weeks

and I still need to buy gifts along with probably a million other things that I probably forgot :/

I seriuosly can't wait for this to be over to actually have money again!

That is really good advice. I'm sure this will come in handy as I still need to get my 'day of' emergency kit put together!
  • Amazingly enough all of our vendors are paid in full.

But we only used a few we had
    venue
    flowers
    photo

    We are DIY
Food (hired people to fun the kitchen and the food that worked with my Mom)
Cake (My Mom has been doing cakes since I was young and I never considered letting anyone else do my cake)

DJ (Someone my Mom used to work with. All we had to do was rent the equipment and supply the music. He used to dj but doesn't have the stuff anymore)

And my Dad's cousin is doing the day of coordinator stuff for us, since she loves this stuff and offered to do it for free. She is also helping Mom with the little stuff the couple days before. I have been blessed to have people offer to help us out and save us a lot of money.

It sounds like you've done a lot of planning the way I have.   Throughout this process of wedding planning, my FI and I have been so incredibly blessed by people willing and wanting to help us.  We are self catering as well but my mom's best friend and daughter have offered to do all of the cooking and serving the day of and the kitchen she works in is even letting us use their catering equipment for FREE.  The DJ is a friend of my dads.  Someone is letting him borrow the equipment .  My mom is doing the flowers for me.  She took horticulture classes in high school and has been doing flowers ever since.  I didn't want anyone else doing them.  The cake is being done by a family friend who runs a cake business out of her home and the price she charged us can't be beat!

Our biggest expense is renting the church and the reception venue.

ETA:  Our photographer is a relative of mine and she's agreed to do the photos and spend all day with us and only charge us what she charges for senior pictures which is saving hundreds of dollars!
