Need Help--Venue Decision

We are still trying to select a venue for our small (50 guests) ceremony and reception.  The two options are Peterloon Estate or Greenacres.  Peterloon has a beautiful inside (lovely wood work, fireplaces, paintings and antique furniture that you can use) and a so so outside.  Greenacres has an amazing outside (gardens, fountains, etc.) and a so so inside (it has been redone so it is nice but more modern looking and the rooms are smaller and one room we would need is in the walkout basement behind a pool that can't be used).  I want to combine the inside of Peterloon and the outside of Greenacres.  If the weather is great Greenacres is perfect but if the weather is bad Peterloon is better.  Also, because the wedding is small we will not be using a tent so that is not an option.  Please please please let me know your thoughts (especially if you have visited either or both venues).  Below are links with photos of both. Thanks!http://www.peterloon.org/peterloon.htmhttp://www.green-acres.org/GAF_sitepages/Arts_Center/Arts-Center-FacilityRental.html

What time of year are you looking at?  Is there any chance the outside at Peterloon will look better at that time than it does now?Is pricing a consideration, or are they similar?I would probably lean towards Peterloon, simply because at weddings I've been to, most guests tend to stay indoors at receptions (possibly this would be different in the spring, but in the summer, people prefer the comfort of AC).I'm not familiar with Greenacres, but I've seen pictures of Peterloon in the paper and it looks really nice.

I've seen and have considered both for myself.  For you, honestly, I would go with Peterloon. Especially you being an October bride.

In response to above posts, the price is a bit cheaper at Peterloon--if we went with that venue we would probably switch the date to mid May.  If we went with Greenacres we would probably go with late September.  We somewhat radomly picked October initially but that is flexible.

I attended walked through GreenAcres late this summer and to be honest... in the event of inclement weather the inside really isn't that amazing IMO... especially for the $$.  The setup is awkward and I don't at all care for the room in the basement with the blinds pulled to avoid the view of the pool.  Seems too dark to me.  You cannot beat the grounds, but if that's inaccessible due to rain I would've probably felt like it was wasted money, especially if Peterloon is less expensive.  good luck with your decision!

I know the rental fee for Green Acres is $10,000 and for Peterloon it is I wanna say $8,000.  I forget what the bar package is like at Peterloon?  I know Green Acres is $25 a person.  Peterloon also provides china for 150 people or less (you qualify).  So you will definitely save money at Peterloon.  The house is stunning at Peterloon and the grounds are beautiful in the spring.  With Green Acres, like you and others have said, just the grounds are stunning and it is more expensive.  May would be a beautiful time at either.  I still think Peterloon would be best for you and your wedding.

Have you checked out Laurel Court?  Both the inside and the outside are beautiful.

Both venues offer lower fees if you have smaller guest counts (under 50 or 60) and are not using tenting.  However, Peterloon does end up being cheaper but not enough that the cost is the deciding factor.  Thanks for the responses thus far, this is really helping--keep posting!

Okay, so here is my next question?  Do you have a theme, a feel you want for your wedding?  Color?  Are you have both the ceremony and reception in the same place?

Ceremony and reception will be at the same place.  Not planning on doing anything very "themey."  Colors will be mainly soft whites and champagnes, maybe with a bit of blue.  I have thougt about, driven by and looked at a ton of photos from Laurel Court.  I am not thrilled with the location and the statues in the front (looks very 80's to me).  Also, I live in Chicago and don't get to Cincinnati very often.  I have tried, on many occasions to arrange a visit but have not been successful.

As far as your colors go, either venue would work.  Is there anything about either you are hesitant about?  What is keeping you at 50/50?

My main hesitation about Greenacres is needing to use the inside if the weather is bad, however the date is better (Sept 25, 2010).  My main hesitation about Peterloon is that the date options are not ideal (Oct 30, 2010 or May 2011) and the outside isn't as stunning.  Almost all guests will be from out of town so I'm also thinking about what would be more of a treat for them.

Regarding OOTers, I think Peterloon would be more interesting for them to see.  Looking at the pictures, I'd go with Peterloon, but I can see the date issues, too.

Sept. 25th would be the best date in my opinion.  Have you given much thought as to how you can transform the basement at Green Acres?  You could have the room draped in white fabric or a champage color and use lots of candles and beautiful flowers.  Green Acres uses Camargo Rental.  They can do wonders!

I think the basement room at Greenacres can certainly be transformed into something nice for some money but the problem is that it would only be used in bad weather--otherwise we would be outside in the lovely garden.  That would mean we would need to pay for the backup plan, which is a bit tough for me to justify.  One of my main issues with the basement room is that it has french doors that open to the pool that apparently is still owned and used by the former owner.  It is a nice looking pool and has windows to the outside.  IF ONLY it were possible to open the doors to the pool and let people walk around it--then the basement room would be fine and woudn't feel so closed in.  Unfortunately, ANY use of the pool room is not allowed.

So have you made your decision yet?

Just reading your previous posts-- I'm sure you have come to a decision by now but if not, I looked at both places about a week ago.  Greenacres is GORGEOUS.  It has my vote hands down.  If I could afford it, I'd definitely get married there.  However... it's way too expensive.  Out of curiosity, did you look at any other places like Greenacres or Peterloon or Laurel Court that were less expensive??  Off the beaten path??
