Completely Confused...

I have about 3 dresses I'm looking at from the same designer. There are a few stores that are located by me that "deal" with this designer. They have told me, however, that in order to try these gowns on, I have to purchase them. I don't really want to buy 3 gowns. Is this my only option or do you think that they are just trying to rip me off?

    If they have the samples in stock, it should not cost you anything to try them on. So if they have a sample in the shop, then yes, they're ripping you off. If they do not have samples, then you may either need to commit to buying them, or pay for them to get a sample shipped to the store. I would look elsewhere to see who has a sample that you can try on for free. If not, bring in photos of the gowns you love and ask if they have similar models that you can try on.

    It's not shady at all.  If they don't have the dress in stock, they have to have the dress shipped in, which can get really expensive.  They don't want to spend that kind of money so someone who has no intention of buying can play around trying on dresses.  It's a very common practice, and one of the pitfalls of shopping online first.  (Some places just want a non-refundable deposit that goes toward the purchase of the dress if you buy it there; if all else fails you can try to talk them into this.)One of the best ways to deal with it is to call up the designer directly and find out which salons in your area have that particular dress in stock.  You can also see if they have a trunk show coming up soon; trunk shows usually carry far more of a designer's line than a shop can hold, but they usually only have one size of each dress with them.

    Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

    If they don't have the dress, try it on somewhere else. You don't want to pay for something only to realize that the dress looks horrible on you.
