Hey ladies, I'm doing research on seamstress in the area. Do you mind sharing where you went, how much they did at what cost, and if you reccomend them again? The store I purchased from in NYC is a flat rate of $475 and I feel like it's a bit much for what I need done. But i have no idea I need the hem brought up, a bustle, and it needs taken in a bit. Thanks for the help!

    $475 isn't horrible, but you might be able to find it for cheaper if you go to an outside seamstress.  It depends on how big the dress is.  I had to have a bustle, taken in, bra pads added and the hem up and it was around $375 at the bridal shop.

    I went to Julianne's Bridal, which is highly recommended on this board.  I bought my dress in Chicago so I didn't even have the option of getting it done where I purchased the dress.  They did a fantastic job!  I had the same thing pretty much.  A hem, just a basic under bustle since I didn't have a long train, and I had her take it in a couple times.  I think I went there 3 times.  They charged me $200.  It is located in Olmsted Falls, which is a hike from where I live on the east side but it was worth it for me to go somewhere other girls recommended.  I also bought my vail through them, and it was only $50.  (It was cathedral length.)  Probably similarly priced to other online places, but I liked that they could show me colors and edging in person.  HTH!

    $475 would be high for the Cleveland area, but for NYC it may be reasonable, as everything there seems to be in a higher bracket.I also went to Denise at Juilanne's Bridal Outlet. My dress was a 2-pc Maggie Sottero w/ beaded corset top and pleated, plain long skirt w/ bustle and built in crinoline. Denise took the top in, added a halter strap, added cups to the top; shortened the hem and adjusted the bustle for a grand total of $65. FWIW though, I purchased my dress from them, so maybe that's why my alts were so inexpensive. Highly recommend! She also did some alts for me on a bridesmaid dress when I was in a wedding --- took in the top, added cups and shortened the hem for $45, IIRC.You may want to give a call to some of these seamstresses yourself and ask THEM what they would charge for what you need done. Be sure to describe your dress so they know what they are working with. (If your dress has lace, lots of beading, or anything intricate in the design, you'll pay more because there will be more work involved.)A couple other names to contact (if Denise is too busy -- she's very popular) include Gail Czapor (Parma) and Cara Hunsicker (Olmsted Twp).

    Sorry for the confusion - I want to bring the dress back with me at Christmas and then start the alterations in OH next March. I'm going to call around I just wanted recs of good people. Great price doesn't = great service :)

    Good luck! Denise at Juilanne's does great work, even though her prices are so reasonable. Also, I like that it's a family owned/operated business that has been in business for a LONG time, not just a handful of years. You know they are doing something right.
