Hi! I was wondering what you thought of the DJ you hired. I noticed you played a big part in organizing your music playlist which is something that is a MUST for me. Did this cause any conflict with your DJ?  I don't want to "micro-manage" vendors but we have very specific music likes and dislikes. The music is too important to us to leave it in the hands of someone else (even if they are the "professional"). P.S. Your "do not play" list is great! I swear I'm going to copy it and then add about 50 more songs.

Hi vintage! To add on to my vendor review, my very detailed playlist and do not playlist freaked him out when I sent it to him because he thought sh*t would hit the fan if it went off course in the slightest. I reassured him that things happen, no big deal. If someone requests something off the do not play list... whatever. But then after the wedding I realized how many of my songs were not played and wondered why I made such a personal playlist for it to be basically ignored. Maybe it's my fault for not bolding the ones that were MUST plays. Plus by the end, guests were requesting songs, which prevented mine from being played. I'm still irritated that he did his own thing for 1/4 of the time when I had it all listed by category, especially when I booked I specifically asked if I had free reign over the music. I'm sure my guests had no idea, but it's the principle.

Thanks mamie! I agree that things happen and I also understand that the DJ needs to keep the party going. What I don't understand is why DJs (who are supposed to have such a great understanding and appreciation of music) seem to turn a blind eye to a couple's style. The music at all the weddings I've been to is exactly the same! Music is a huge part of our lives. I just need to search for someone who can look at a list of requests and know exactly what other artists and songs will fit into our style without me having to spell it all out for them. Also, you can fit a ton of songs into a cocktail hour or a 3-5 hour long reception. I don't think it's okay to not play at least most of the songs that are requested. Sorry this was long. I started venting!

Are you in DJ search mode right now? I definitely wish you luck in whomever you chose. I almost regret not going ahead with my initial idea to do an iTunes wedding, but unless you have someone emceeing and knows what they're doing in control of the playlist, it could end in disaster - but at least you'd know your playlist was going to be heard.

I'm on the hunt. I know I have some time but I have a feeling it's going to be a difficult find.I thought about doing the iTunes thing as well. I just don't think it will work out. I will keep searching!

Sorry to hijack the post but- I reccommend DJ Klock. You can find his info in my bio. He has sat down with us and pretty much lets us have free reign. Hes very attentive and dependable. I've known him for years now and highly reccomend him. (and he doesn't charge an arm and a leg) Good luck with your search. HTH!
