Poll: When to send save the dates?

When are you getting married and when are you sending your save the dates? In the beginning of my wedding planning, I had read most places that etiquette was to send STDs 6 mo before your wedding date, unless the wedding was destination or on a holiday...However, the more boards I read, it seems like lots of people are sending them out farther than 6 mo. in advance  - are you?  If you are, why?TIA!

    We are getting married in July and we are sending them out the first week of January. FMIL wanted us to send them out with our holiday cards but I wanted to wait til everyone had their new calendars.

    Im getting married July10 2010. Im having a destination wedding, so Ill be mailing out my STDs next week.

    We're planning to send ours out in October or November (about 10 months prior). Most people on my "month" board are sending theirs out around January. I'd say, send them when you're ready. :-)

    I'm getting married 10.10.10 which is a Holiday weekend and a Sunday. Therefore, we're planning to send them out before Christmas so people have time to plan if they're OOT.

    I am planning on sending them in Feb (6 months out). I called my photographer yesterday actually to find out if she could do them and other info. She is going to send me some samples so I can get ideas. Since I am already ahead of the timeline, I figure I might want to send them out a little earlier because I will be so excited! So maybe at the earliest Janurary :)

    We are getting married 7/31/10. I've been debating about when to send out the STDs though. I already ordered them, because I got an amazing deal at Vista Print (250 for less than $50!). I am thinking about sending them out before Thanksgiving, because we have a lot of out of town guests, so they might want to start making travel arrangements and vacation plans for the summer.

    So I just reread my post and I meant I am shooting for April to send them out...that would be 6 months til the wedding. I don't know what I was thinking when I said Feb! I am getting waaayyy ahead of myself..haha!

    We are getting married July 3 and are planning on sending them out beginning of November since it will be on a holiday weekend.  I also wanted to send them out before Christmas cards so that it doesn't end up in a pile of cards that get thrown away after the holidays. (I just know what happens at my house :)How are you ladies planning on addressing your STDs?  My handwriting is horrible but I'm just not a fan of the clear sticky labels.  Has anyone used a printing company like Fedex Kinkos to print the addresses directly onto the envelopes and if so how does it look?

    I also got my STD's through Vista Print - and with some home printing, foam stickers, and magnet strips from Hobby Lobby, I ended up with 250 of them with return addresses for $50 total.We're getting married on a Father's Day, which is a Sunday, so we'll be mailing them out as soon as we can get addresses in order.  Hopefully by next weekend.

    I wouldn't do them send them out no more than 9 months in advance. I would actually recommend around 6 months unless you have special circumstances. (holiday weekend, destination, etc). Just a suggestions but I did magnets and everyone loved them and didn't lose them.

    Thanks everyone! Since we are getting married in June, 6 months would be December 26. But, I don't want them to get lost in all of the holiday mail, so I think we are going to shoot for the beginning of November OR beginning of January!

    We got married July 11 of this year and sent our STDs at the beginning of November last year. As someone said earlier, I was afraid of them getting lost in the holiday shuffle, and quite frankly, just wanted to get them out before the craziness of the holidays for my own sanity!! It worked out just fine and it gave people plenty of time to make travel arrangements (we had a ton of OOT guests). Good luck!

    It's vistaprint.com. If you go down to the Promotions and Events section on the left side of the site, there is a link for Invitations and Announcements, which has a Wedding category within that section. The magnets are also under the Promotions and Events section. Coupon cabin usually has coupons for Vista Print too!
