A lot of times the store you bought it from will steam it free. OR call the hotel you are staying at, sometimes they will do it free. Or ask around to your family, someone will have a steamer. I called around to a few places and it was always in teh $50-$75 range. If you can get your hands on a steemer, its a good job for an aunt to do the morning of... Mine were in my face all day wanting to help, they enjoyed the silly jobs like steaming my dress because they were involved and they got to hang out with the girls haha

kari- You are a HUGE help to me this week. :) I was wondering about getting a hold of a steamer. Thsi might be a great way to keep my mom busy! So is it pretty easy to steam a wedding dress? Is there anyway you can royally mess it up???

hang the dress high, like from the celing. steam it in layers, steam from the underside. keep it a safe distance from the fabric (usually 6 inches or more) this helps prevent "wet looking" spots. There isn't really a big secret to doing it, it just takes a long time. I've spent hours steaming dresses at the BABC shows... take your time. If you can borrow a steamer, maybe do a preliminarey steam so the day of, you only have to work out the train and back. It can take up to 2 hours to do one dress, so make sure you give yourself enough time.

Yes, it is possible to royally screw up steaming a wedding gown IF it is silk.  If it is a synthetic fabric then steam away, you shouldn't have any problems.
