Cut my ring finger off? No thanks!

Seems like more and more jewelers are acting like used car salesmen lately. I know they want us to buy stuff, but they don't have to lie to make a bigger sale! These are wedding bands were talkin about, they actually mean something to us! Its not some junky used car. Everyone is talking about jewelers convincing them that they might lose a finger if something happens while wearing a tungsten ring. That is totally false! Any adjustable hand held vice grips or wrench like tool can apply enough pressure to shatter a tungsten ring. Its one of the hardest metals, but not the strongest. That means it can break easier than it can scratch. Just like a diamond!! Don't be fooled by the jewelers.

We were told the exact same thing at first! We soon figured out that was not the case. They also said that tungsten rings can't be engraved, which is also a lie! They can if the right machine is used. Any quality tungsten ring business will have the ability to do so.

Haha don't you love people!? My FI needs a tungsten ring because he works on power lines and it won't scrath or conduct electricity so we made sure we did our research. It was funny going into places (just to browse) and then saying oh you don't want that if you hurt your hand you won't ever get the ring off then they proceede to show you to a ring that costs twice as much!

Yeah, I think the tungsten hate is silly. Even if it were true, what are the odds that you will just happen to injure your left ring finger to the point that your ring needs to be removed?I think a lot of it depends where you shop. I'm lucky to have an awesome jeweler nearby, but they only have 2 stores and both are in NC. I recommend shopping local stores over national chains in general, though. National chains put all their staff through the same cookie-cutter high pressure sales tactic training. They don't want you buying tungsten because it's inexpensive, plain and simple.

We got fi a tungsten ring. He delivers milk and will be really rough on his so thats what our jewler suggested. We didn't want anything that would bend or scratch easy.

Our jeweler actually told us to get tungsten. My DH uses his hands a lot and the jeweler said that he shouldn't get titanium because it could only be cut off by 2 hospitals in our entire state.

Wow! I never heard that lie. My jeweler asked what we wanted and I said that I had heard tungsten was durable. He took me straight to it and helped me pick on that looked good with my ring. No redirect at all!

We were told the same thing. We got it anyway lol. My husband loves it and how it looks. And he's in the Military! They advised us not to get it beacuse it could end badly, and then like others said, showed us a ring that was 3 times the cost!

Hey Ladies!It's so funny the contraversy that surrounds Tungsten rings! My fi is an electrical engineer, and when he does work in certain plants he needs to have a tungsten ring. When Jason went to buy my engagement ring, the staff was super helpful so we figure we would go back to the same place to get his wedding band. We had a different salesperson than before, and she was so rude. She was eager to push the $600 White Gold ring more so than the $400 Tungsten ring that looked pretty much the same. She went on to tell us that if Jason ever got into an accident, the emergency crews would be unable to remove his wedding bank. What a lie! She just wanted to make the sale. I personally have a white gold ring and it's so much work to get rhodium dipped all the time. Tungsten for men, especially men who do work outside of the office, makes perfect sence. It's durable and will retain it's look much better!
