  That sounds like a great idea, featuring desserts from your individual nationalities! It will make the reception really cool and interesting!

  I think this is a great idea. I would love for someone to have this at a wedding I was invited to. I guess it doesn't hurt that I love deserts. Maybe by each kind of cookie you can put a sign saying which side (nationality) the cookie comes from....if you wanted a sentimental vibe to it describe who in your/FI's family would make this and include if it has a special meaning.

  this is pretty much what i'm doing.
  our venue serves a cannoli as dessert. the cake is technically separate. they cut and display it on a table. being italian, we will also have cookies.  sooooo to encourage people to eat/take them home, we're incorporating take home boxes as part of the favor. that way guests can go get what they want, and enjoy it later

  In Southwestern Pa it is a traditoin to have a cookie table at a wedding.  Every wedding I've ever been to and weddings that have happened generations before me have had a cookie table at the reception.  It's funny b/c I'm from Pittsburgh and my fiance is from Central Pa and even though there is only a 3 hour difference from where we both grew up, none of his family/friends/neighbors have ever heard of a cookie table at a wedding.

  
  

  Now the cookies are traditinally baked by both the bride's and the groom's families, though I'm sure now a days there are more and more brides and grooms who just buy the cookies instead.  But a cookie table is a great way to showcase each family's origins and if each family bakes the cookies themselves, it is a great bonding/family expereince.  

  
  

  My wedding is in October of next year and if I didn't have a cookie table at my wedding I'd be shunned LOL But my family is Irish and German and my FI's family is PA Dutch, so we will be baking a lot a cookies/desserts that represent both family's origins and we will also have jars of halloween candy, like candy corn and such, scattered about the cookie table so that it also ties in with our fall themed wedding.
