bridal luncheon dilemma

i know my wedding isn't till next may but my sister asked me a question about bridal luncheon/shower..see i live in charleston and the rest of my family lives mainly in greenville..the wedding is in charleston. i have a few friends plus my fiancee's mother who would want to attend..but i think my family is bigger so it might be easier to have in greenville..it doesnt matter to me but i dont know if my friends are willing to travel 3 hrs to go to a bridal shower/luncheon..thoughts?suggestions?

    Hmm...I made my bridal luncheon just for me and my bridesmaid's the day of the rehearsal dinner. Most of my bridesmaids are from Virginia (as is my family) so there was no way that they could come down another time. So we're getting together Friday for lunch.

    I grew up in gville so everyone is here for me. but i plan on having one for family and one for friends

    The bridal luncheon is typically the day before the wedding and it's an opportunity for you to say thank you to your bridesmaids and typically bridesmaid gifts are given.  Who is hosting the shower?  You should do it where ever is more convenient for that person.  Since I assume it's your sister, have the shower in Greenville.  The people that can make it will make it.  Just make sure you're understanding of people not being able to attend since it's out of town.
