Checked out 2 Venues today (LONG)

I am happy I went but I'm a little discouraged.  First my BFF and I went  and checked out Crestmore Manor in Riverside.  Fell in love with the pictures online, fell even more in love seeing it in person.  The lady was very good with the tour, mentioning all the details that I would have forgotten to ask.  The one question that I did ask was if they did military clauses in their contracts, and she said no!  I was not expecting that.  She said because the property is owned by the county; I don't know what that has to do with it but that's what she said.  Then we looked at dates for next Oct and looking at Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, they only had one day, a Sun., in Oct. left.  They had 2 days at the end of Sept, a Fri and a Sun.  And THEN, she started telling me how horrible military life is, and that the divorce rate is sooo high and you will pretty much be a single parent.  Then she was saying how after a few years with her husband she got sick of seeing him everyday!  She was nice and funny, but I thought it was weird of her to say those kind of things to a bride-to-be!  So then we came back up to the High Desert and went to see Boulder Creek Ranch.  That place is huge and so unexpected for the desert.  The view from the arbor, where they hold the ceremonies, is really really pretty.  There is a lot of stuff not finished, which is why they aren't really showing it yet.  I am a little apprehensive about that place because they haven't held any weddings there yet and its all run by the husband and wife.  I asked her about the military clause and she said she had never heard of it and would have to talk to her husband.  I like the Crestmore Manor because they are used to doing weddings and are completely set up to do them, but the date thing and the absolute no on military clauses make me think it's not gonna happen.  At least I got my 2 main places looked at before I leave the state.

Congrats and going and looking at places! I still need to go check out Boulder Creek. The guy was supposed to buy a bunch of materials from FI's dad but hasn't yet, which makes me nervous, cause that $3000 was supposed to go towards the wedding! Sucks about Crestmore Manor's lack of military clause, but being owned by the county doesn't make sense to me either. Are you checking out anywhere else before you head up north?

Ok, let me just share with you my experience with CM. Take it as you wish. I called and made an appointment to go look at it. When FI and I showed up for our appointment, they didn't have us on their books. The director wasn't even there yet. (I knew all of this because of eavesdropping) So, when she did finally show up, she said, "Oh, sorry I've been stuck in my office with another client. They can't figure out what food items they want." Part one, it was 10am in the moring. The place had just opened up. Part two, the place does outside catering! WTH would she be needed for picking out food items?! Throught the tour, she kept going back inside her office, leaving FI and I just standing there waiting for her to return. With all that, I knew I wouldn't have my wedding at a place that couldn't even keep an appointment straight! My wedding is a very important day to me. I want someone else to at least pretend like they feel the same way. I would be careful if I were you.

Sorry you had such a negative experience with CM. Sounds that woman is just very bitter and shouldnt be working face to face to potential customers. You will find the perfect place. Oh and about the county thing....my site explained this to me....they basically contract with the city/county for the use of that venue and they pay a certain $ towards the city/county for each use. If someone cancels then the site doesn't get the $ back from the city/county so therefore most will not offer a full refund if you cancel.

Yeah I still really like CM but I figure we won't be able to get a date there anyway.  Bre, um, yeah, Crestmore doesn't provide any of the food, so why would that be a concern to her?  Was the lady that you dealt with Sheila?  That's who I talked to.  When we were in her office looking at dates, she opened it to a day and saw a name written down and was like, that's not good, then started doing her own thing in the files and stuff and my friend and I were just sitting there not knowing what was going on for about 5 minutes.  Then she told us that she didnt' have a file on that name and she didn't know who's handwriting it was!  I can't believe she kept leaving you!  Krystal, I can't look at any other places cause I'm leaving tomorrow, yikes!  And with Boulder Creek, she was saying how they were supposed to have done certain things already, like the big event tent, but the city keeps telling them they need to do other stuff, so it sounded like they don't have a date really pinned down for when everything will be complete.  But since your wedding is in 2011 I'm sure everything will be done and they will have done some weddings and you can try to get some reviews!  I have just decided that I'm gonna have to go with the flow, probably not booking anywhere until we find out our next station.  I probably won't have the wedding I have always envisioned, but I will make it work and maybe I will end up liking what I find more than what I have seen already.

Well good luck! And enjoy moving to a new city! I'm sure it'll be hard, but how exciting that you get to get out of the High Desert ;)That's crazy about CM, best to just avoid. And hopefully Boulder Creek will be up and running by my wedding time, it's just convenient for me.

If I were you I would wait and see what happens with BCR. If it were me I wouldn't mess with CM. And yes, it was Sheila.

I think you should go check out the Knott's hotel- ask for Aida and tell her Christine and Mark sent you!! You might not have huge expectations but you just might like it :)
