Need help finding No Kill Shelter in NJ

Fi and I have decided to make donations to a no kill animal shelter in NJ for our wedding "favor."  I know the pros and cons and honestly this is what we feel most comfortable doing. If we are going to spend $ on a favor most people will probably end up throwing away we would much rather help animals in need. We understand either way we can't please everyone. Now with that disclaimer out of the way :) Does anyone have suggestions for a no kill shelter in NJ, that maybe they have experience with or have heard about? I have located a list but to be honest don't know how to decide who to give to. TIA

We got one of our babies from Jersey Animal Coalition in South Orange and had a great experience with them.  www.jaconline.com

Good choice -- no-kill shelter is what we did too :)  But we gave to the Humane Society of New York, which is local for us.http://www.charitynavigator.org/is very helpful for picking good causes. Two that I know of are Noah's Ark and P.U.F.F. (which is cats only).  You may also want to look into the North Shore Animal League (which is on LI but is the largest no-kill shelter in the world -- and is where my babies are from) or the ASPCA (which is not local, but runs some shelters and is a fabulous organization).

I believe that Liberty Animal Shelter in Jersey City/Liberty State Park is a no-kill shelter. Maybe St. Hubert's in Madison, too?

St. Huburts (there are a few around) is a wonderful shelter.  I got my puppy (who is 8 year old now) from there.  The place is clean and the animals look well cared for.  They are also a no kill.  Great idea for the favor.

Great suggestions. I hadnt even thought of North Shore Animal League. Im from NY so even a NY shelter is fine. I guess I just said NJ since thats where we are living but in all honesty location really isnt overly important. Wherever the money will be best utilized is ok with me!Thanks for your suggestions :)

Another neat pet-related charity is Angel's Gate, which is an animal hospice in NY: http://angelsgate.org/

we got our puppy from the Newark AHS. I am not positive if they are 100% no kill but they are always in need of donations - it is a rough location with a lot of animals. We are donating to them for our favors and they give you a card saying something like "instead of traditional favors a donation was made to AHS" and a pack of flower seeds for each guest.

I still dont get this animal donation thing.  How does animals have anything to do with a wedding.  You dont want to have a favor, dont have one.  You want to donate to animals, go ahead, god bless you.  But dont do it as a favor with the stupid little card that explains the mission of the shelter, who cares.  It is a wedding I dont want to read about an animal shelter, I want to eat, drink and spend time with family.

Good thing you're not invited to her wedding then, huh, Brad?

I'm gonna say it every time...brad, you are a tool!I used to volunteer at Noah's Ark Animal Placement and Rescue in Clark, NJ (and got my dag from there as well).  Nancy (the woman in charge) rescues all types of animals from abusive, lost, homeless or injured situations.  She stays open through donations only, so I know she could use it!  :0)

My friends do a lot of work for the new jersey greyhounds. I am not sure of the exact name but can find out if you are interested.  The jist of this organization is that greyhounds are bred to be racers and once they are 3 (I think) and have no more use as a racing dog they are killed.  This organization finds foster and permanent homes for these dogs.  I think I explained it right and while I am not an animal lover I do help in all their fundraising efforts because the thought of living creatures being born/bred to serve such a silly purpose and thendestroyed sickens me.

There are lots of wonderful organizations in NJ that can use the help. I volunteer for a dog rescue that takes dogs from high kill shelters & brings them to our location in Morris County. As an FYI, St. Hubert's is not a no-kill organization.
