Garfield Park Conservatory past experiences?

Hi! I'm very close to booking Garfield Park Conservatory for next year but have some concerns about the size of the space. They say capacity is 200 but I've heard it's hard to fit that many people there. Also I know it's a more inexpensive venue since it's through the city but do you end up spending just as much money with all the rentals? Thanks girls!

I didn't have my wedding there, but was a guest at wedding at the Garfield Park Conservatory and have to say I was underwhelmed. It's a beautiful space, but too small for the wedding ceremony (not enough seating for guests and even the wedding party was crammed together). Also, I don't know who the preferred caterers are, but whoever catered the wedding I went to ran out of food and couldn't find one of the wedding cakes. The wedding I went to there stands out in my mind as one of the worst I've ever been to on those counts!

i have been to a wedding here. it was just gorgeous. it is in the ghetto but that aside, the inside of the space is like a palace with all the glass its crystal-like and the plants just make it so different and unique. the caterer that was there when we were guests had everything under control and the cake was delicious. there was maybe 150 people there and it wasnt crammed at all.

Hi,I have attended a wedding there in which there were just over 100 guests.  I thought there was plenty of space for that size.  I was seated toward one of the ends and would say there was probably room for about 4-5 more tables.  I'm also getting married there next year and will likely have 100-120 guests.  I would imagine it would be pretty tight though at 200 guests for a seated dinner (but that's just my opinion!).  I think costs can add up quickly, but just like anywhere else it depends on which caterer you choose, if you want to upgrade the chairs/linens, what you do about flowers, etc.  Regarding the caterers I think there are several good caterers to choose from on the list.  We had tasting with Jewell Events, Food for Thought and Phil Stefani and were very pleased with all 3.  The wedding I attended used Berghoff, the food was great and everything went smoothly.  Something to be aware of though that we learned the hard way was that there are a couple times each year where the Show Room is being replanted for a 3-week period.  So if you rent the space during that time, the Show Room may be barren (i.e., dirt instead of flowers).  Sorry this is a bit long...Good luck!
