Latte for breakfast?

I am not a breakfast person, but enjoy Starbucks skinny caramel lattes (3WW points for a grande). Am I deluding myself into thinking that this is an acceptable breakfast substitue? I realize how important breakfast is and I'm hoping (fingers crossed) that since it's 16oz of skim milk that it will be at least not terrible. Please let me know what you think, I'm fairly new to trying to lose weight! TIA!

Re: Latte for breakfast?

  • I don't think it is a suitable breakfast. There are a lot of calories in lattes. I'm not familiar with WW methods, but I do know the purpose of breakfast is to give you energy for the day. Caffeine and empty calories do not do this. Breakfast is a great opportunity to get in some fruit servings. If you're in a hurry, look up healthy fruit smoothie recipes. Have a piece of toast on your way out. Just don't rely on coffee as a breakfast. You'll be hungry again by 10am.

  • It is not. Simple as that. You need more protein, carbs and good fat, than one latte can provide. Please dont eat breakfast at starbucks, wake up early and make something good for yourself. You rbody will thank you.
  • Thanks, I appreciate the suggestions :)
  • I haven't had too many problems with hunger, but I think I've realized that I do need something more as well. Thanks for setting me straight.
  • if you like eggs you can have two hard boiled ones for only 4 WW points - thats my normal breakfast and maybe get a small (tall?) starbucks instead to even out the points some.

  • everything the PPs said, but it you can't give it up totally, switch to a smaller size and have some cereal with it.
  • No, it's not a good idea. A latte will never be considered a good breakfast. Think about the amount of sugar you're consuming in that grande latte... your body doesn't need that much sugar as your sole breakfast food. You might as well eat a Pop Tart or something nasty sweet like that as your only breakfast.Like pp's said, you need to be eating a real breakfast, which does not include anything from Starbucks (except maybe their oatmeal). You can still have your latte with your breakfast, but it shouldn't be your breakfast. Also, try getting a tall drink instead of a grande. I never get bigger than a tall... no need for the extra sugar. And no, I'm not going to tell you to get sugar free instead, because I know how much I don't like it in my coffee : ) HTH!

  • A skinny caramel latte = skim and sugar free syrup, right?  If so, that's not a lot of calories or sugar--just what there is in skim milk. Many try to avoid artificial sweeteners, and that is ideal, but they don't seem to affect me if I use them in moderation.I think you could do a lot worse, but a big glass of milk doesn't seem like a great breakfast on its own.  I agree that you should downgrade to a Tall and add cereal with fiber and protein, hardboiled egg, banana & PB, greek yogurt, or oatmeal, etc.  I don't think you would need to add much.I would probably get my latte on the way to work and start sipping right away.  When I got to my desk, I would pull out the rest of my breakfast and nibble on it.  Even if you don't feel super hungry, I bet by gradually introducing food into your body, you will start to feel hungry.  I also think if you make a point to do this, your body will get more used to eating breakfast. And if all you want to do is drink, look for some smoothie recipes that appeal to you.
  • Also, if you want to avoid artificial sweeteners or you don't like them, try the latte without flavor.  I started doing this just b/c I had a sip of my friend's once, and now I almost never want flavor. If you still need "sweet" you can add a little from a packet, and control how much you use.
  • Thanks for all the help! Yes, I always use the skim milk and the sugar free caramel which actually taste wise isn't bad, to me. It's not my everyday breakfast (like I could afford that...) but it's good to know that it shouldn't be my any day breakfast. I'll definitely try introducing more, especially on the weekends when I definitely have time, and I do keep healthy snacks at my desk that have way more protein. Thanks again though!
  • Actually I'd recommend that you focus the most on fibers, because those will keep you away from food due to hunger the longest. And a water bottle is also good if you sit at a desk for hours; known volume is a hit, because that makes counting very easy. GL!
