Go to Groupon.com. Sign up for emails. Today (tuesday) they have a 50% off coupon for a restaurant in the Gaslamp you might be able to use. I love the Prado restaurant, it's in Balboa Park, next to the zoo. When you are at the zoo, definitely check out the new Elephant Odysessy exhibit, and Frank the baby gorilla! There is an IMAX theatre in Balboa park too, check out the movies. Do you have a car for this trip? National Comedy Theatre on India St. near Mission Hills has a great improv show. Google it to find the website. You'll need to get tickets beforehand. Have fun!

If you like birds (ie, not afraid of things flying around your head), the SDZ has some great aviaries.  I'd personally recommend the hummingbird aviary.  It's small and kind of tucked away near the children's zoo, but well worth it.  I'm a member of the zoo and that's my favorite spot. :)  The other aviaries are really good, too, just not as secluded/peaceful.The new panda baby isn't yet on exhibit, unfortunately.  But you know... it's a great zoo all around.  Wear comfortable shoes and enjoy! :)One restaurant that my fiance likes to recommend in the Gaslamp area is The Yard House.

If you want to see the koalas while they're awake, make sure to get there at opening and head directly to them. :)  They are really neat, and there's an adolescent joey in the yard.

The Prado in Balboa Park is a great restaurant and they have a great happy hour too (I think 4-6 then again from 8-10). The calamari is delicious! In the Gaslamp, I really like Oceanaire, Morton's, and Rei do Gado. Extraodrinary Desserts is closer to Little Italy, but still downtown so you may want to check them out. I heard there's a new wine bar at The Ivy hotel that is interesting as well.

Not sure if you are interested in the beach but the la jolla coves are beautiful or a more historical beach sight is cabrillo national monument in point loma, it has great city views and you are right on the water (its where FI proposed! ;]) also near balboa park is Sea Port village which is fun to walk around and check out. Enjoy your weekend!

Have fun while you're here - groupon is a great resource! the Hillcrest neighborhood is right by the park, and is a fun place to check out. It has some great restaurants. For coffee or cocktails, David's at Cafe Eleven (on University) is great, and for snacks at the bar, Baja Betty's is right across the street. There is also a Wine Steals in the neighborhood, with a nice patio for people watching. Enjoy your trip!
