Vendor Rant

I just wanted to share that I went to numerous numerous dress shops in and around Lansing despite there reviews because of the style of dress I wanted. I ended up finding the perfect dress at a national chain who's local store is in Okemos. I ordered it there despite serious reservations regarding their customer service. My dress came in perfect and fit like a glove and needed No alterations save putting in the bustle so I took it back to the store for that so that they could press it (as included in getting the dress from them) and I could be done and have my dress set. They took over an hour to get my bustle pinned in because they couldn't seem to get it even. That was after making us wait for 20 minutes for the appointment. They had us pay and told me they would call and let me know when my dress was finished but that it should be done by approx. the middle of September. I started calling them the last week of Sept. when I hadn't heard from them. They never returned my messages or answered the phone. When I finally got someone on the phone they took a very rude tone with me for missing my "appointment." And were really difficult about scheduling a new one. They finally scheduled me for this weekend. I showed up 10 minutes early. They got around to me around 20-25 minutes late. Then while I was getting my dress on the one seamstress starts pinning a hem up on another person's dress. After waiting about 30 minutes we asked when she was going to be able to show us how to bustle the dress. She paused for a minute to show my mother how to bustle my dress then with minimal conversation went back to what she was doing. As I looked at it I noticed the bustle was uneven. I interrupted her conversation with the other two individuals to let her know I thought the bustle needed to be adjusted and they all glared at me for interrupting there conversation. We then preceded to wait another 45 minutes while she finished the other alterations. Then she took another 30 or so to fix my bustle. All the while I stood there feeling worse and worse about everything in the horrible lighting. I even started to hate how I looked in my dress because all I had to do while I waited for an hour plus was pick apart every detail. I can't believe it took that long for this. I'm sorry this is so long but they have been very rude overall and I thought I should share. If you feel compelled to order there - DO NOT take your dress there for any alterations no matter how simple.

So sorry to hear about your troubles! I too purchased a dress from the national chain in Okemos but luckily I did not take my dress there for the bustle (that's all I needed done as well). I went to Silver Thread Tailor - however, the original will not press the dress for me because of that but I'm willing to pay to better customer service. I've heard horrible things about the national chain's alterations department. Good Luck with everything else!!

I'm sorry for all the trouble you had there. I also purchased my dress from them and unfortunatly had them alter it as well. They did a terrible job on my alterations and charged my an arm and a leg for it all. The hem at the bottom of my dress ended up being crooked and they said there was nothing they could do about it because of the way my dress gathered on the side which is a load of crap except to steam it which didn't help anything. I would not recommend going there either for alterations. Find somebody local to do them! They will be cheaper and do a much better job.

I went to this chain in Okemos as well, and when I walked in, was greeted with the following statement (and no smile).. Lady: "Do you have an appointment?" Me: "No, I didn't know I needed one. But I just want to browse, I don't need help from a consultant." Lady: "I'm sorry, we require you to have a consultant. We are booked today, when can you come back?" Needless to say.. I never went back. Bad business.

I didn't buy my dress from the national chain mostly because of all of the reasons you all gave. I had been checking their website and kept checking that I DID NOT want a consultant to call me because I wasn't ready yet to go in and try - I was just getting ideas online but they require that you put in your phone number. Anyway, they ended up calling me (which I didn't want) and then were rude to me about making an appointment. They woman just had a rude know it all tone.... needless to say, that's when I decided not to go there at all. I'm really sorry for your troubles with them! You'd think a national chain like that would at least have decent customer service.
