Seating Chart

At what point did you just say "F*ck it" with the seating chart?I've done this damn thing about 6 times - I have 115 guests... It's getting old fast...I just want to make sure everyone has a good time, and that no one feels like they're at the loser table, and that if people don't show up, I don't have a table of 2 next to a table of 8, etc...

That's why I decided not to do one. I have 250+ people invited and I don't want to keep track of who's not speaking to whom, or having a loser table as you said, and I have been to weddings where that has happened that people will end up sitting almost by themselves since people don't show. I'm going to have seats for everyone that's invited and everyone can find a seat. I may have reserved tables for family or whatever, but other than that, it's free for all. :)

We were really lucky, it only took us 2-3 tries and there wasn't too much drama. (between my parents and me, anyway)I wouldn't worry about it TOO much. Your guests can walk around & hang out with other people during the reception. Don't stress yourself out, girl! :)

I've thought about that too, but I've been to wedding where it's a free for all, and I like it MUCH better when I have a seat.

Good post Alexia..I'll be interested in the opinions as well. With a huge guest list, I don't know what we'll do with these people!!

I'm torn about this as well. Honestly, I just don't want to DEAL with it! haha I think I'll save tables for the parents and wedding party and everyone else can sit anywhere!

I have been to weddings where there are no assigned seats and my FI and I were left standing there with our plates (it was a buffet) looking like idiots searching for two seats together...no one would get up to help and we were left sitting outside with the DJ..it was horrible and I vowed to have a place for everyone so people didn't feel displaced...so yes, it might be a pain right now but your guests will be grateful in the long run...just work on it a little at a time and leave it when you start to get frustrated...

Alexia, I really like your input on this board and you seem like a generally friendly person but I feel like your signature is kind of hostile.  As a new person to the board, if I saw your siggy, I would immediately feel like this would be a board where I would be easily attacked and I wouldn't feel comfortable posting.  I understand how you feel it's just that I"m not sure your signature is the appropriate place to express it.  I don't want to offend you and I understand if you don't care how I feel but I just wanted you to think about how it might come off to newcomers.

Well, that's the great thing about this board. Everyone has their own opinions. People set him/herself up to look like an idiot. Sometimes, people need to realize what he/she is typing because he/she doesn't realize it on their own.Sorry to hijack your post Alexia.

Also, you're saying that Alexia is in the "wrong" because she's put that person's quotes on her siggy. What about the person that has quoted the statements? Have you said anything to her about her comments to and about others?

Theresa - I'm so glad you feel you can express your opinion, I feel the same way and that's what this is all about.  I also feel it's perfectly legit to call someone out on condescending words or passive aggressive ways of making others feel inferior. It's a public forum, if you post it, it's up for grabs. And if my siggy makes you feel uncomfortable about posting, just don't post dumb stuff that's going to piss people off.  Do you honestly not read my siggy and think WTF? Rani and Vedika - Thanks for the support. Rani – If the shoes are too big, they make this little thing that goes in the shoe under the ball of your foot so it isnit loose.  I'll see if I can find what I'm talking about… I've bought shoes a half size bigger because they were the last pair and this thing saved me.Jess – No worries, I wasn't going to tell anyone who they were with – I feel like that opens up a WHOLE new can of worms!

It didn't take me too long to do the seating chart.  I mocked one up before I had all the responses and had to change it once or twice.  I thought I had a good one and FI wanted to make a few changes that I hadn't even thought of and it seemed to work better.  And hey - there was no loser table at my wedding...my guests all kicked butt.  Oh and a tip, the numbers weren't perfect but I didn't freak about adding a person or having one less person at a table but I did try to avoid having a really small table.

Jackie! YES!  I have a few of 6 a few of 7 and a few of 8, I have ONE of 5 though and I don't want it to be weird, but I'd rather people sit with people that they'll enjoy themselves with than to spread people out just to fill tables... Holy crap that's the worst sentence ever.  Forgive me.

Rani... I got them at Baker's.  They are super cute but a size too big (only bought them for my TTD) so if Target has some that look like them I need to go check them out :-)

i'm anti-seating chart because i almost always get stuck at a table with people i don't know so i can "entertain them." and then i am stuck there all night. so i am one of those who would rather have the option to sit where i want! (lauren, i gave my opinion so you wouldn't feel as bad for considering no seating chart. I didn't have one!)Also, you're saying that Alexia is in the "wrong" because she's put that person's quotes on her siggy. What about the person that has quoted the statements? Have you said anything to her about her comments to and about others?Well, vedika summed that up nicely.

Gricest, I promise you will be happy with your seating for my wedding. ;) haha. I personally think seating charts depend on the mood of the wedding. Grice's wedding flowed perfectly well without seating charts. But I've also been to weddings with seating charts (Stover :) being one of them) where I was happy to have an assignment so I could sit with people I like and know.

Funny how my 'loser' table was actually supposed to be the 'cool kids' table but since I didn't specify a floor plan other than for the sweetheart and parents' tables it was in the back corner of the ballroom. So even though it was cool people sitting there they gave me crap all night about me sticking them in the corner. I told them to get over it :) Are y'all having plated or buffet?

We're having a buffet... and the loser table was an example.  I'm really excited about everyone that's coming to the wedding. And our room is a square... there really are no "corners" to tuck anyone into.  I'm not worried about table placement, but the actual people at which table.
