tipping hair and make up

Do I have to tip them if they are the owners of their business?  They are making a good deal of cash that day and I don't see why I should tip them.  What are you/did you do when it came to tipping hair and makeup?

For some reason, business owner or not, I personally feel that hair and make-up are just services that you should always tip for.  I tipped my hair and make-up people and they were business owners.

I really don't plan to. They are not going to declare the income because it will be cash.

I gave them each a 20, because I was so happy with their work, but I feel that you shouldnt have to tip people who own their own business

I always tip... its not like all the money is going to them they have to pay for salon, products, etc.  Plus, if you really love what they do its nice to show appreciation.  But its your call.

I will tip day of the wedding for both....I however did not tip for my hair trial.  The girl doing my hair owns the salon I am going to and it was $85 for the trial which only took 20 minutes.

I didn't tip for my hair & makeup trial. I intend to tip the day of the wedding, however.

  • Shocked at all of the non-tippers. I think the notion of not tipping salon owners is outdated (I'm a professional makeup artist, so I often work hand in hand with stylists). Unless a "no tipping policy" is specifically stated, I'd assume a tip is expected- and 20% is STANDARD for acceptable service. If the stylist does an exceptional job or is doing you any favors (traveling without charging extra, doing the flower girl for free, etc...) then a larger tip is warranted.
