KA Mixer

While we're on the topic of kitchen things...  Does anyone have the KA classic version from Wal Mart?  My sister got us this for our shower ($100 less than the mixer from BBB).  But I read reviews, and it seems to blow up on ppl a lot.  Although it comes with a dough hook, it seems to not be able to handle mixing dough.  People have said that when it blows up, KA tells them that it can't handle dough and won't cover it. Haha.So anyway, we could upgrade, with a coupon, for probably about 40 bucks.  I have the receipt, but my sister put it on a credit card.  Stupid Wal Mart will only credit her card.  Trying to figure out if making the switch is worth it, and if so, how to make it work out.

They don't have the other at Wal-Mart that you could just make the exchange?  Although, I guess then you're not getting the coupon.I have the artesian stand mixer and love it!  I've never had any problems.  Sorry don't know about the Classic.

Sorry, don't know anything about the Classic, but I think very highly of the Artisan and the Pro models.  If the reviews online aren't great and you want to use it for dough, it seems like it might make sense to upgrade.

Maybe post on the What's Cooking board to see if anyone has the Classic and what they're thoughts are.The only other thing I can think of is to return it and then have your sister give you the money (probably not ideal), and then go to BB&B.  Or exchange it at Wal-Mart for something else you need, and suck up the cost and get it yourself at BB&B.

I also have the artisan stand mixer - I'd pay more for the reliable model! I use mine ALL the time and would cry if it blew up!

um, the only thing I can really think of is to exchange it for store credit... and then hold on to that and use the $100 until its gone (I dont htink they depreciate).  And then pay for the whole mixer out of pocket. Do they sell the classic at BBB?  If so- register for it, and then return it (they take returns without anythng if you are registered for it) and get the nicer one.  Does Target do the same? If so, maybe register for it there and return it for cash? Does Target have it?

I am suggesting that, yes. Stealing? perhaps- but if they sell them anyway, and if she never used it... I guess it just depends on how loose your morals are.  To each their own.

I think they only sell the artisan model, anyway.  No worries! Thanks for the feedback.  Sounds like not many people use the classic version.  I'd really love to have the Artisan since everyone seems to have good luck with it.  I'm glad there aren't any stories of them blowing up from using the dough hook that comes with it!I'll try to figure out a way to make the exchange.

Wow, can't believe you think stealing is ok! I thought that was just one of those moral absolutes that wasn't subject to interpretation. Hey, maybe I can "forget" to scan some groceries at the self checkout next time too?

Regardless of if they sell them, or if she's used it - that's still taking about $100 from BB&B.  In the grand scheme, is it a lot? No.  But technically stealing nonetheless. And, if caught, BB&B would potentially have grounds to prosecute.

People returning things to stores where they didn't purchase them is why Target and Walmart have such strict return policies now....which sucks, especially for registries.  BB&B is one of the few good options out there - don't take advantage of it so that they keep it around!

GL figuring out how to make the exchange.  Does your sister know you want to upgrade it?  Maybe if you just explain what you've found, she'll take it back and just give you the cash for you to go to BB&B and pay the difference.  You have some pretty good reasons for wanting to switch it up. :)

Yeah, I'll have to try.  I'm just worried that maybe she doesn't have the cash since it was on a credit card?  And she lives 2 1/2 hours away in the middle of no where...I just hate to make a fuss.  We already had a big fuss over one gift that she was involved in (bought it for my mom to give to us).  Long story, but I just feel bad!  I'll have to figure something out, though...

kudos.  I guess I was just looking at the grand scheme of things.  I would say go with store credit with WalMart and then just pay out of pocket

Maybe try talking to a store manager, maybe they'll make an exception.  It's a long shot, but you never know.

Regardless of morality, it wouldn't work anyway because BB&B will only take returns of things that were PURCHASED from your registry without a receipt, not just things that were scanned onto your registry and don't show as being purchased.
