Band Budget

Does anyone have any idea how much a band should cost in the Carmel area? It doesn't have to be anything spectacular or fancy, just someone who can play covers (contemporary ones--not wedding stuff) for two hours or so. My sister and her husband told me to expect anywhere from 8k-15k (which is about 5 times what we can spend, ha) but I don't see how that can be right.Any advice? Or bands you'd recommend?

Our band is based out of san jose, but we are only paying 3600 for ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception, so way more than two hours. I would start looking around at local ones, but if you want more information about our band let me know, although they haven't played the wedding yet.

We found our band, which is out of state, and they just happened to be planning on being in NorCal for a music fesival near our wedding date, so they agreed to play for us! It's $1,000. They're really good with a couple of CDs out. I think there are lesser known bands in NorCal you can book for $800 or so. You just have to hit up the festivals and ask lots of people for recommendations and check out lots of myspace music pages. :) it's a lot of work looking for a cheap band. It's easier to just Google search "wedding bands" which takes you to a booking agency and their long list of bands, but they're usually more expensive.
