Looking for wedding venues...help!

Im getting married April 2012, have been looking for affordable venues that allow us to bring in our own food, has space for about 500 and is a nice looking place. Our budget for the venue is about 5,000. Everywhere i have looked is catering only and its just ridiculously expensive. Also the time we have the place for would be nice. I would like it to be available longer than 5 or 6 hours.

thanks, any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

The problem you are going to run into is caterers carry liability insurance and have liquor licenses. That is why the usually require a caterer. You cant have liquor without a license. Outside of a private home I doubt you will find something. You may want to contact a small caterer and work something out with them. I also know mario's catering is pretty cheap if you cant find one

Check out Victoria. They have multiple locations depending on the size of your reception. The food is GREAT, plus they have a 6hr bar. The menu options are huge so you have a wide price range available.

Check out Mayslake Peabody in Oak Brook. You can rent out the whole estate. I don't know if you can bring in your own food as we used a caterer. THIS VENUE DOES NOT HAVE A NAMED CATERING LIST, so you can hire your own affordable caterer.  I know one gal that did Bueono Beef catering there.

They do require a one day liquor license in Oak Brook to bring in liquor. They also require a liability policy with Mayslake as the only named beneficiary. Both the insurances cost us 250.

We used mario's ... www.mariosevents.com  They ARE NOT ridiculously expensive... We had a family style 5 course dinner and it was great! Everyone loved the food. They also did our bar service and that was also great, the service was EXCELLENT! for our whole event.

They have a variety of pricing from very low (7 bucks or so) to higher end. The nice thing about them is they bring in all of the china, linen, glasswear, silverware, without extra charges for that stuff. They will put out all of your table numbers and escorts cards too. Check out their website for all the menu options. They also will do a pig roast for you, which could be an option for you with 500 guests.
    Good Luck
  • Bristol Court Banquets in Mount Prospect allows outside catering if you are doing Indian food... and they can hold about 600 people. You deal directly with the owners & they are really nice and super accomodating.
