Cost of band vs DJ?

Hi everyone

Would anyone be happy to share how much you paid for your band or DJ? We really want a band but aren't sure we can afford it... we thought maybe $3,000 but have absolutely no idea if that's realistic.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

    I dont know about the band but my DJ was $850 for Jay Edwards

    I have to second Springchicken's statement about Jay. That's who we're using, too. We getting married in a small-ish space - we wanted a big band or jazz band, but we wouldn't be able to get the full sound because you just can't fit that many musicians in this space. So we figured it'd be better to have a dj and get the full-band sound, even if it's not live. And it's less expensive, since you don't have to pay for individual members of a band and all of their set-up time. I think we were estimating at least $2k for a small band (3-4 members). I don't know if that's accurate, but that's what FI came up with after a little research.

    My mind isn't funtioning real well today so I may be off a bit in this but...when my daughter got married a year ago she had a band and I think the cost was about $500/hour.  It was a full band with two singers.

    She used The Paul Vesco Orchestra.  You can google them and see the different bands that are available.  It was cheaper to deal with the band directly than to go through gigmasters.com and pay their fee.

    We are using the Now and Then Band, our cost is $1100 and they have a 4 person band plus a DJ who runs lights and continues music when the band takes a break.
