outside caterers allowed

I'm pretty new to the planning stage -- I've  been looking at reception sites and most of them don't allow outside caterers... My sister works for one and I'd like to give them business, but it looks like I'm limited! I've only just begun to look, but I was curious if anyone else has experienced this kind of difficulty. OR if you've found a good list of places that do allow outside caterers. My top choice for location just changed their rules for 2010 and no longer allow outsiders :-(Even if I love the location, I'd rather love the food. People remember if they were fed well more than if they liked the location.

    Ask your local board to recommend places that allow you to bring in outside caterers. Go to the blue house icon at the top of the page, and look for the Local Boards dropdown menu to pick the city/state that best fits your area.

    out place doesnt allow anything from the outside which sucks because we were going to bring our own alcohol :(

    You need to be calling the local caterers and asking THEM what venues they cater at and ask them for their opinions of each one.  You can also meet with some of those caterers and find the one that meets your needs.

    Usually, venues and reception halls owned by the City allow outside caterers because they usually don't provide food or alcohol. Call or go to the parks & rec department of the city where you live or where you're having your reception. Also, your Chamber of Commerce may have a list of banquet halls and caterers.

You can also meet with some of those caterers and find the one that meets your needs.This x100.  If working with your sister's catering company is your priority, then go to them for venue recommendations.  Also, if you're dead set on a particular location, see if you'd be permitted to bring in an outside caterer for a fee.

    Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

    That's one reason we booked a B&B as our venue.  We could have any caterer we wanted, brought our own beverages, and didn't have to pay $8 a slice for cake.
