Vegas

Does anyone have a recommendation for where to stay in Vegas? I've never been but we want to stay on the strip, in January (so cools don't matter), and at a 4 or 5 star hotel that has poker.

    The MGM Grand was great!

We stayed at the Signature MGM (3 towers located directly behind and connected to the MGM Grand). We absolutely loved our room.  It's not directly on the strip but it is connected to the MGM so you can just walk through MGM to get to the strip, or you can go out the side entrance and walk a block or two up to the strip.

I've stayed at New York, New York and the Bellagio.  The Bellagio was nicer, but we weren't paying for the room!  (DH work paid, as he was there for a conference.)Both are on the strip, and I would recommend both of them.

We just honeymooned there a couple weeks ago. We stayed at Mandalay Bay and LOVED it. We also liked the Wynn, MGM, Planet Hollywood and Mirage. Any of the newer hotels are pretty nice. We just didn't care for the older hotels, like Harrah's, Bally's, etc. They smelled very heavily of smoke. I believe there are a couple large conventions in Vegas in January, you might want to make sure you're not going then, it'll be crowded and the rooms might be more expensive.

The Wynn is absolutely beautiful - and I also love the Hotel at Mandalay Bay and the Venetian.  If you want to get off the strip at all, Red Rock is a little west of the main area in Vegas and has a fabulous spa, golfing, etc.

You really can't go wrong with any of the newer hotels on the strip.  Although I didn't stay at any of these, a couple of my favorite hotels that we visited were the Bellagio, Venetian, and MGM Grand.  Although Caesar's is an older hotel, it's also very nice.  The best thing about all of these is that they're all pretty centrally located on the strip, so it'll be easier to get to everything.
