how to change your name?

hello everyone! i am a married lady now so i have to get around to changing my name. i live downriver in wayne county i don't know if this matters. i know i need to go to social security office and security of state, but is there a certain order?

You must first get a certified copy of the marriage certificate.

I'm in Oakland County but like Lisa said, you need the certified marriage license first, then SS office, then SOS the next day.

When do we get the certified copy of the marriage license, and where do we go to get it? County clerk? So much for taking the Monday off after the honeymoon. Sounds like it's going to be a 3 day process....

I ordered mine online from Oakland County. It's $5 extra but I never have time to make it to Pontiac. SS office told me you have to wait 24 hours before you can go to SOS.

I'm confused. When we got married, I think we signed two different copies. The priest took one to submit, and we got to keep the other copy. What is the SOS?

You can get a certified copy ten days after you are married in Wayne county. You have to go to the clerks office where you got the certificate in the first place. yes you sign two copies. You get to keep one and for ours the church filed the second copy with the state. Any legal paper work, ie. name change you have to get a certified copy.
