what's too much for a DJ?

Ladies, what's the going rate for a DJ at 4 hour event?

We're using Soundsations - a recommended vendor for our venue - and it's $600 for 4 hours.  Not sure how that compares to others around here since I met the DJ at our venue tasting event, liked him and booked without really shopping around.

We are spending $1000 for 4 hours or $1125 for 5 hours, depending on if we decide to extend the reception for an extra hour.DJs can range from $500 to $2500 but I think it's a very important part of whether the reception is a fun party or a not so paying a little more is totally worth it :)Another option is a band, but they don't always play those dance songs everyone likes to hear.

$950 for 6 hours, but that is with a 20% discount b/c the DJ went to high school with my fiance (but he is a professional DJ and videographer-- that is his career and he owns his own company :)).
