gift for Rabbi

Our Rabbi's services for our wedding are included as part of our synagogue membership. Are we supposed to get her a gift though? She is pregnant and due right after the wedding, so we were thinking of sending a baby gift after the honeymoon, but I wasn't sure what would be the most appropriate. Are you doing anything for your Rabbi?

Do you have a personal relationship with the rabbi?  We are getting married at our shul so there are no fees, but we are inviting the rabbi and his wife to the reception and we are making a donation to the shul - which is pretty common. Otherwise, perhaps a nice gift for her baby would be nice as well.  Again, depends on the nature of your relationship.

One of the rabbis we used was at my parent's shul - since we're not members, we made a donation to an organization we know he cares about, and also got him a pair of baseball tickets because we know he's a huge fan.Our other officiating rabbi is a friend of ours - we got him board games we knew he would like and also made a donation in his honour to his shul. You don't have to get your rabbi a gift, but it's always appreciated. A donation and/or a baby gift are both great ideas.

before our first meeting with our rabbi she gave us a packet about wedding details and the synagogue. since my parents are members her services are free, but she actually wrote in the packet that if we insist on a gift, to give a donation to the Rabbi's discretionary fund at the synagogue.

we were told to donate to the Rabbi's discretionary fund so that is what we are doing.

Our rabbi asks us to give a donation to the 'rabbi fund' which he can use to benefit whomever or whatever he wants.
