What to wear to a winter wedding?

I know this is probably too soon but oh well. FI & I just got our STD for one of FI best friends February wedding in Chicago. Details I have so far: Day: Saturday Ceremony: 2:30pm in a church Reception: ?? --Although I believe it's a the hotel mentioned for the hotel accommodations Formality: ?? --However I can only guess it's formal since it's an afternoon church ceremony, but then again, I've heard churches have rules on 'timeslots'. What do I know. Any ideas other than a big coat? lol TIA.

Cocktail or cute sweater dress with dark tights and mary janes or boots. I've seen a lot of cute jackets for winter (lighter weight wool, maybe in a print or houndstooth?) You could also wear a heavier pashmina if the walk from the car inside isn't too far, Chicago is freezing in the winter!!! The fashion and beauty board on the nest is great for this stuff!!!!

I've been to a winter wedding that was very formal in Boston. I wore a black and white chiffon dress with black pumps with nylons. I had just bought a long wool coat (knee length) that is also black and white, checkered (for lack of a better word). Churches usually have time slots for weddings because they need to work them around services. Do you know anything about the church or hotel? Are they fancy? I think that would also help you determine your dress.GL!
