From a guests point of view...

I went to a wedding this weekend as a guest! First of all, let me say how happy I was to be a guest and not a bride. It had it's ups and downs and I just thought I'd share! First of all, the ceremony was fantastic. The bride was absolutely beautiful and it was fun watching the groom (he looked so nervous). It was a great short ceremony (15 minutes) with some powerful words. We then left to go to the reception which was right accross the street from the church. When we got there we discovered that it didn't start for two more hours. So, we had to wait in the hotel lobby until we could get into the room. This was absolutely awful. We were starving and uncomfortable. So finally we got into the room just to discover that their was an hour cocktail hour. So again, we were still elft waiting for the bride and groom. Abotu three hours after the ceremony they entered into the reception room. We had a fantastic buffett dinner and delicious cake and then the bride and groom had their first dance. It was really nice and then after that they asked all couples to come up and dance. Everyone came up on the dance floor and dancing with them. I would definitely recommend this move! The dance floor was packed very early in the evening and everyone was having a blast. Then they had a anniversary dance and the couple that won were married for 50 years. Their advice to the bride and groom was to "always do what the wife says". haha. It was funny and cute. So then they had a dollar dance. I thought it was kind of neat until 60 minutes went by (not even kidding!) and they were still doing the dollar dance. If you are goign to do this, try and put a time limit on it. So that your guests aren't sitting around for an hour watching you dance. After that was open dance! The DJ wouldn't take any requests from guests at all. He wasn't a very nice guy either. I didn't request a song but saw several fo the bridesmaid's and family members request songs and they were all turned down. The DJ wanted to play the electric slide instead. I think this place was called Boogie Nights? Or something like that. Then the bride and groom left the reception for about an hour and a half, so that was a little weird. All in all, it was a great wedding with fantastic food, but it was WAY too long (ten hour day). I just thought I'd add in my comments now that I'm finally a guest!

3 hours?! Yikes! Yea...unless you're going to provide a 3 hour cocktail hour (ie. food and drinks, please), that's a bit excessive.Maybe the bride and groom left for a quickie. ::winkwink::
