Jewelry store recommendations

Can anyone recommend a non-chain jewelry store in the area where you can find unique (maybe even antique) engagement rings?  I'm helping a good friend find a ring for his girlfriend (my best friend from college) and he does not live here/know any jewelry stores.  I am married and live in the DC area now, but my husband bought my engagement ring when we were living in another state.  Thanks for any help/advice!

I would DEFINITELY reccomend Charleston Alexander - they have two stores in the area, but aren't a chain. They were SO helpful and have (or can get) just about anything you can imagine. You'll also get the best deal in the area on the stone.

I 15000% recommend quest jewelers in fairfax/merrifield.  They are amazing and do awseome custom work.   questjewelers.com GL!

Washington Diamond in Falls Church, they custom-designed my e-ring and gave FI a good price. Several other friends have also used them and love them.

I've used Facets for ring repair, but they have a jeweler onsite who does ring design there.  They are on Lee Highway in Arlington, family-owned and super nice.
