Shapewear

So I was just wondering if anyone uses these.  I rarely dress up or anything and wouldn't mind having something under my dress to help out lol and I have a reception dress I plan to wear the is pretty tight and I should probably have something to help smooth out those rolls.  My question is what brand do you by?  I don't want to buy something super expensive since I will probably never wear it again, and is it bulky or hard for you to breath in them?  I am wanting like a strapless slip or something that gets the tummy butt area.  TIA!

Re: Shapewear

  • I plan on wearing spanx for my TTD as it is form fitting. They run about $30. However Target has their own brand of 'spanx' that I think are $15

  • I was JUST going to post something like this!!  I didn't know if any other brides planned on wearing shapewear for their wedding. Spanx are really great - but as a plus-size person I find them to be a bit too tight, but they don't cut off your circulation so I can deal. They make them like high-waisted bike shorts.  They also make this one shaper that can hook to your own bra so that it doesn't roll down.  I think they also make slips. I do't know if you have a Dress Barn near you, but they just started carrying their own shapewear (and its not expensive).  They are silky feeling and aren't as tight as Spanx, but they smooth you out just enough without choking you....They make them in all different forms, like high-waisted briefs, natural-waist boy-shorts and the long-waisted bike shorts.Macy's also carries the miraclesuit stuff, but that is a bit pricy and can feel really restricting, but it works! lol
  • Thanks, I have never used anything like this, but I really want to be nice and sucked in for the wedding lol The one I thought about getting from Spanx was like $72, and I don't want to spend that much on something I will most likely only wear once.  I will check out the other stores.  Thanks!
  • I got mine at kohls for $15 dollars or so. I don't remember the brand, but it's not Spanx, just something like it.
  • I bought both the "Assets" from Target (their Spanx) and a Hanes briefer at Target. Both were around $15. I wore the Hanes one because it was white and matched the bra, but also was more comfortable than the other. The material was made of a softer stretch stuff. Actually by the time we hit the wedding, I hadn't eaten in 2-3 days from running around and almost felt like I didn't need it!I also have a strapless slip thingy like you mention. I actually used that for my try ons, but it was not cut low enough in the back for my dress. I think I got it at Macy's for $40 or so. My Mom then bought one like it in black for her dress at WALMART for under $20!
  • I love Spanx.I would go with Spanx. They are comfy and breathable. I usually wear them with all sorts of outfits. On Wedding Day I wore a dress slimmer that included  a push up bra from Sears. It worked out well. I have worn other brands and had the dress roll up on me while I was wearing it. Durring the rest of the events I wore Spanx
  • I am not normally a big fan of Sears, but they now have their own "spanx" line. I have worn a few pieces and am love them, plus they are about half the price.
  • I like Spanx. I wear them when ever I wanna be completly "smooth" in the pictures! LOL. I plan on wearing Spanx under my wedding gown. Its pricey, but it does the trick for me.
  • I heart my Spanx tights that I wear to work. I am *hoping* that I won't need any body shapewear for the wedding. I got my Spanx at Nordstrom Rack for about 10 bucks ;)
