Vietnamese Wedding?

Hello LadiesI need some help please.  I'm marrying a wonderful Vietnamese man and would love to incorporate Vietnamese traditions into the whole wedding ceremony and reception.  I have no idea where to begin.  I live in Los Angeles and don't know which vendors could be helpful.  I know this would mean a lot to his mom and I love it if I could find all the right things to do.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi! Have you talked to your mom about incorporating traditions? What I've found is that each family has different "traditions" and I'm sure she would love to help you in this process. My H and I are both Viet, yet there were different family traditions that we incorporated. You're in LA which is awesome - you'll have a LOT of access to a huge selection of vendors/resources. Start with his mom and then you can start a list of things "to do" and "to get" for the ceremony and reception.

I agree with buttaflai, start with his mom and see which traditions she wants to do.  From there, you'll have a galore of vendors to go to unlike me, out in the midwest.

Thank you ladies...hmm unfortunately there's a slight language barrier but yea I think you're right I'll start with his sisters and then see if I can meet with all the ladies in his family to get some help...just didn't know if that would be okay or not.

I'm also marrying a Vietnamese man. I agree with others about talking specifically to his family, but here's what we are doing: -Vietnamese tea ceremony, in addition to the traditional "western" ceremony. I will be wearing a traditional Vietnamese dress (ao dai) for the tea ceremony-Reception is being held at a chinese banquet hall, which is a very popular tradition. It's also a lot cheaper from what I've seen! -During the reception, we are incorporating traditional aspects, such as greet each table, pictures with each guest at arrival. We are also having a traditional Vietnamese cake (which is a certain flavor, I think rum cake? With whipped frosting).

If you're having language problems, one suggestion I have is to find youtube videos or other family videos of vietnamese weddings and have the parents say yes or not necessary to each of the elements. I found out some superstitions I never knew about while doing this and it helped a great deal. Good luck!
