Include grandparents on program?

3 questions... 1) Are the grandparents always listed on the program? 2) If you list the grandparents, do you only list the ones that are still living or do you include the deceased as well? 3) Do you include step-grandparents? If so, how? The program format I'm leaning towards is a little lean on space and I haven't found anything that indicates the inclusion of grandparents is mandatory. I would like to list them, but if I also need to list all of the dead ones AND the step-grandparents, I'm worried I'll run out of room. As a side note, I'm thinking this isn't the project I should be working on at 1 in the morning.

Re: Include grandparents on program?

  • I don't think there is a proper way to do it. List them if you'd like - if not, then no biggie. We listed our living grandparents under grandparents of the bride/groom and we did an "in memory" section on the back for deceased grandparents. You could include step-grandparents if you are close with them. You could do (i.e.):Grandparents of the BrideMary Smith (your grandmother), and her husband George Smith

  • The step-grandparents aren't spouses of natural grandparents, they are the parents of step-parents. So Step-Grandma1 is the mother of my step-mother, and Step-Grandma2 is the mother of the groom's step-mother. I think I'm going to leave them off... it's impossible to explain the relationships without drawing a chart. :( What do you all think about the deceased spouses of natural grandparents? FI's grandfather passed away a few years ago, so for Bio-Grandma I can either have her listed alone, or do something like: Grandparents of the Groom Mary Smith and the late John Smith That seems odd to me though. Has anyone seen this done (or done better?)

  • Ohh okay. Yeah, I would keep them off. If the parents of DH's step-parents had come, we would not have included them.

I considered doing this, but listed each grandparent alone (combined, DH and I have 4 living grandparents, each of whom have lost their spouse) and ended up doing the "in memory" section on the back like I mentioned.

  • I cannot imagine not listing my fiance's step-grandparents on the program. I like them better than his bio-grandparents and his step-dad I like better than his mom lol! 10/10/10 Bride!!

  • I don't think we'll list any grandparents. Of the eight original grandparents that we had, only FI's paternal grandma is still living, and the rest all died a while ago - the most recent was about five years ago. And FI really is not a fan of his grandmother - lots of bad blood.

Wouldn't it be nice to live together in the kind of world where we belong?
  • I'm in the same boat as Sarah. Only FI's paternal grandmother is living. There's no bad blood, but they aren't close since he grew up in a different state. We'd love to have her, but at 98, it probably won't be possible for her to travel to our wedding.I'm even questioning putting parents on the program. I've always thought it's a nice gesture, but never required. I don't think I've ever seen grandparents listed on a program.

  • You can list your grandparents (living or deceased) without listing the parents of your step-parents. No one should be offended about that.
