How much did you spend on your veil?

I got mine for $25 shipped from a website. It's a 2 tier cathedral length veil with embroidery. Together with my dress, it looks like I'm being swallowed whole by this mess of white. The place where I got my dress quoted me on a veil that I like that goes well with my dress: a beaded 2 tier fingertip veil for $200. However, I can't justify spending that much on something I'll wear for 30 mins. I could buy thoes blue water goblets I've wanted or nice favors for guests instead...at least my shoes, jewelry, and everything else in the wedding will be used for several hours. I'm thinking about looking for a shorter $25 veil online...what do you ladies think? Or is $200 not that much and I should just go for it?

too much!  I got caught up in getting stuff from DB & I wish I would have waited.  I ended up spending like $100-$150 for a totally plain fingertip veil & blusher.  Now I see beautiful beaded ones online for way way way cheaper, but I can't bring myself to buy a new one knowing what I spent on the one I got already. Honestly look on Ebay.

  • I bought mine on ebay for $30.00.  I really just bought it as a prop for my boudoir shoot, but then liked it so much I considered wearing it, but ultimately decided against it.

  • I voted less than $50, because I paid $20 to get my mom's veil cleaned. But if her's wasn't going to work or clean easily for me, I was going to be spending about $100-150 because that's how much the (cheaper) ones I liked were. $200 I don't think is horrendous, if you want to make it a family heirloom. $200 is a lot if you're only going to wear it to the ceremony.

  • lol I cheapskated it. 15.99 for elbowlength.  Made in china, ebay special.  It's gorgeous though, and does everything a veil should do.... like sitting there on my head.

I mean, it's just tulle with some hemming.  There's absolutely no justification for all those bridal stores gouging for 200 bucks.  I almost laughed at the DB lady who tried to sell me a veil in the store.  Seriously?  Will it make me breakfast or something?

  • I found mine on ebay for $25.00.  It's not exactly as beautiful as the one I fell in love with at the salon that was $200.00, but the one in the store was definitely not $175.00 prettier!!  It just wasn't worth it to me for something that, like you said, you'll only be wearing for 30 mins.

  • I voted $50-$100... my viel is very simple and was $50... my dress was just under $900, and I didnt want it to take away from that lol... also, like you said, I am only wearing the viel for the ceremony 30-45 minutes and for pictures... However, I did also purchase a hair fascinator/piece that was $80, but I will be wearing it the entire day.

It's all in what you want to spend, I dont think there is anything wrong with a less expensive viel, likewise, if you really love one for $200 and it is in the budget, I sat go for it.

I found the exact veil I had been eyeing in the store but didn't buy because it was too expensive on the Wedding Classifieds board here at TK. It was 190 retail and I bought it new off a fellow bride for 80 bucks! Interestingly enough, it is a 2tiered fingertip length veil with beading...maybe if your wedding is after mine we can 'recycle' it again? Let me know if you want pics or anything.

I spent a lot on my veil....I'm embarrassed to admit that it was over $500.  It's a 1 tier cathedral length veil with lace that matches my dress perfectly (dress and veil are the same designer) and the tulle is a very good quality.  I was able to switch out the fabric underneath the top lace layer of my dress to a cheaper fabric (which in my opinion is just as nice as the original fabric and used the money that I saved to make up for the cost of the veil.  Here's a pic:

EDIT:  This veil will definitely become a family heirloom.  I have 3 younger cousins and hope that they might want to wear my veil someday too.

  • I'm just embarassed to admit I haven't bought one yet, I've been thinking about a fingertip one from somewhere like valuveil, but I'd rather be able to see it in person first, when I go in for my first fitting I'll be looking at the veils the bridal salon has to offer.

  • I bought mine second hand from Craigslist....a mom made it for her daughter!  I was adament about not spending the bridal store prices and was actually going to try to make mine.

  • A friend from church is actually making my veil, it will be her gift to me. I talked to her on Sunday about it, so hopefully I will have it soon. I couldn't imagine spending two hundred on a veil, but I am also just very frugal in day to day living. So...
  • I have a drop veil from veilshop.com. Chapel length. It was $74.  They tend to be fairly inexpensive and my order arrived no problems.
  • I 'splurged' on mine...$117.  I fell in love with it when I tried my dress on and just had to get it.  I know that's not ridiculously expensive, but it's way more than I wanted to spend.

  • I'll admit that mine was pricey at 300 at the shop I bought my dress. However I can't even imagine a veil more perfect. The lace trim matches beautifully to the lace on my dress. I'm usually the last person to say I look pretty and the dress and veil together is stunning!
  • My mom made mine for under $50. She's really good at beading, so she beaded all the way around the edges. It's beautiful!! Fingertip length, it ends in the perfect spot!

Click here to see it. For some reason, it won't let me upload the picture directly. :(

  • My veil is my something borrowed from a friend so I'm not spending anything on it. My friend's MIL made the veil so I don't know how much it cost originally. Sorry, I'm no help

  • The lady who is altering my dress is making my vail. All I had to do was buy the material at Jo-anns fabric.
  • Ooh, there's actually a beaded fingertip-length veil selling at the Classifieds board right now!

  • Mine was free, its my something borrowed, im using my sister's veil.....i couldnt justify spending $200 on a veil, it was either a free veil or $200 off my dress and i went with $ off my dress=)

  • I'm ordering a cathedral length veil from etsy for $39 and plan to bead it if I feel like it needs a little something.

I fell in love with a veil at Kleinfelds but they wanted over $800.  It was almost as much as my dress.  INSANE!
  • Mine is a gift from my Matron on Honour she wore at her 2nd wedding lol (don't ask)
it is beautiful with little pearls sewn on... matches my tiara and dress to a T
  • Mine was 23 bucks on ebay! Its chapel length 1 tier with scattered rhinestones. A few fell off but there not in a design so I can't even tell where they came off at. I was NOT going to spend a ton on something to wear for a few pictures and the ceremony and that's it! Now its not as great quality tulle as the 300 one at the salon but it gets the job done and really from a distance you can't really tell!

  • I bought a bird cage wedge veil from an etsy shop for 25 bucks..  The veil was not something I wanted to spend money on.
  • Spent $40 on a birdcage veil that ended up being HORRIBLE.  Then spent $100 on a much nicer fingertip length beaded veil from DB's.  I'm definitely going to save it for my future daughter/nieces/etc., etc.

  • I bought mine for $15 at Joann Fabrics. It has rhinestones on it but I made it into my little DIY project and added alot more rhinestones to it and I added some to the comb too. I couldn't justify spending alot on the veil if I was just going to take it off after the ceremony and pictures.

  • I got mine at a bridal salon. It's a birdcage veil and I spent $30 on it. It's completely plain and unadorned, so I might spend an extra $10 and buy a bow or flower or something to go on it.

<div>Don't worry! I haven't gotten one either. I originally thought I wouldn't get one due to what I think is an unnecessary expense (buy a veil or pay for two more people to celebrate with us, no brainer). Now, I'm rethinking it, but I do not want to spend a lot of money on it. I have my first fitting on Friday, so I'm going to try some on then. </div>
