Videographer, yea or nay?

I keep going back and forth on getting a videographer. It seems like all the companies where FI and I actually like their sample are going to run us $1500-$1800 and that seems really pricey to me. Especially when the end result is just one 30-45 minute DVD as opposed to hundreds, if not thousands, of pictures. But at the same time I keep hearing that people who didn't have a videographer regret not having one, and people who did have a videographer thought it was a great investment and they are glad they did it. So I'm wondering to the already-marrieds, did you or did you not have a professional video and would you say it was worth it? And if you didn't have one, are you really wanting to go back in time now and change that aspect of your wedding? lol. I originally hadn't budgeted for one, but now I am wondering if that was short sighted.(This is also a cue to recommend me your videographer if you were pleased with their services! Thanks everyone!)

I am 100% glad that I had a videographer.  My video is a couple of hours long altogether and then I have a shorter recap as well.  I paid around $1700 and would say it was absolutely worth it.  There was just so much emotion and things were said on our video that are priceless to have and that could have never been captured by photography.   I also really liked the messages from friends…I highly recommend those even though we didn’t think it was necessary at first.

I too did not have videography and wish I had one.  We have a low quality video of the ceremony from a friend that will do but man I wish I had one.

My best friend HAD a videographer and it wasn't as expensive as you quote AND her video runs over an hour.  Even though it was HER wedding, she gave me a copy so I could see myself acting as her maid of honor.  It was awesome!  Try ACCSVP -- they're VERY reasonable.  My video is $675.

We looked at ACCSVP's web site and their video looked cheesy. Well that's what FI thought anyway. All I thought was that it looked kind of dated, like they made the sample vid in 2003 and never bothered to update it since then. So I would really like to see a more recent clip of their work. Do they have any other samples?

We did not have a videogrpaher, and I do NOT regret the decision.  To me, there were just other things with the wedding (and life in general) that I'm glad the money was spent on instead.  My sister had a video--a one hour edited version and 2-3 hours of raw footage...our family, including my sister and her DH, watched it a total of one time.

I also did not have a videographer, but I do NOT regret that decision.  If I had it in the budget, I may have considered having one, but honestly, I didn't miss anything at the wedding. My day didn't go by "way too fast" and I remember everything that happened.  Personally though, I don't know how often I'd watch the video.  I'm sure I'd watch it in the beginning of the marriage, but as time goes on, I know that I'd forget about it (I'm just that kind of person).  So, I figured I'd spend my money elsewhere, but that's what worked for me.  You'll have to really think about it to decide if it's something that YOU will want/need.

We had a videographer for the cermony only and we were so busy running around, taking pictures, and doing other stuff that I wish we had one for the moments I missed/don't remember during the reception.  The ceremony ended up done well.  I was really happy with what we had considering the fact that we wrote our own vows and neither of us kept them.  If you're going to get a video I HIGHLY recommend it at least be the ceremony. Here is the website of the videographer we used: www.memory-productions.comWe got 10 copies of the DVD for $550.  I just saw on their website that they've knocked up the price to $750 and the amount of DVDs to 5, but we've given most of them away to immediate family and now just have a few back-up copies.

Hey! We DID NOT have a videographer and are actually really glad! We used that money elsewhere and in truth, does anyone want to watch themselves on video? We didn't really find it appealing, not to mention that the videographer or their equipment would have been in many of the great close-ups we received from our photographer! Honestly, we might have watched it once, but that would have been it, DH can barely sit through the 1800 photos we have. lol. If you really want it, think you'll watch it, and can afford it, go for it. Otherwise, imho, I think you could find plenty of better ways to spend your money.

We ARE using a videographer. I think it is well worth the price and will watch it in years to come. I will have something to look back on when I have kids and will be able to show them, as well as some family members that may not be able to make it to the wedding due to travel, or old age. We are using Red Moments. They do a wonderful job and their video's are not cheesy at all. This was my 'special' project and was very critical with every company I looked at. I am so excited for them to capture all of our day and be able to look back and watch what I was not able to see the day of!http://www.redmoments.com/

Yeah, I honestly don't even know how I would feel about watching myself on video. That's a good question ... I've never really been in that situation, so I don't know if it would be awkward or what. I feel like it might be awkward lol. It's definitely something to think about. We're in a somewhat unique situation as pretty much all the guests will be coming from out of town (except my immediate family -- parents, sister, and some of our local friends) and so I don't get to see them often. We have 12 states, coast to coast (literally, NYC to San Francisco!) represented in our attendees. So I was thinking it might be nice to have all those people captured on video. But then again, they'll hopefully all be captured in pictures too. So it might be extraneous. I dunno gotta talk to FI about it and see what he thinks! :)

We are using a videographer and I have a small budget. I would recommend going through packages and asking for what you really want/need sometimes they are able to accommadate your request and you would be shocked with what type of deals you can work out !! :) I looked at 4 different companies but in the end I decided to go with Attention to Detail with Doug. I did look at a A Clear Crystal Sound and yes they are cheap but their website looks old and outdated and I agree the video was a bit much (just my opinion). If you look a page or so over there were a few questions and recommendations for videographers. The ones I looked at are:Attention to DetailRob Corns - Corns Creations A Clear Crystal Sound Focus on You ( I can't remember if thats right)

We had a videographer and it was worth EVERY penny. We put so much time and thought into the details of our cereomony, and we hardly remembered ANY of it! I am so glad I was able to go back and watch.

We didn't have a videographer, but we did got out and buy a mid-grade camcorder (and extra battery) ourselves ($420 total). We had a family friend videotape the ceremony, one of my family members interviewed everyone at the reception, and we passed it around for the remainder of the reception. And bonus, we had a camcorder for our honeymoon and everything else we'll want to tape! We're going to edit the video using iMovie ourselves. Hope this helps!

we used Moonstruck Productions. I am in love with our video and so impressed with their work. looking back, i think it's one of the best decisions we made.

we did not have a videographer and I was regretting it only from the standpoint of I didn't know if our photographers would catch everything.  The teasers went up and I CANNOT believe the moments that the photographers got.  We haven't gotten all of our pictures back yet but I trust that it will be more of the same and I am so thrilled!!!!  So in the end, I am not regretting not having a videographer, especially since I would have wanted to go with someone like 2nd mile productions and they are a little pricey.

We went with Mystic Image Video for our video last month. Although we have not yet received our final version, Paul & his crew did an outstanding job on the day-of the wedding. ON THE DAY OF, we received a highlight version of our day because we selected a package in which they showed a highlight on the big-screens at our reception venue. It was absolutely amazing and I still have no idea how they got so many fantastic shots, or edited the video in the short time between our ceremony & reception. In addition to being incredibly professional, they exceeded our expectations in every way and I can't wait to see the final product. Paul e-mailed me last week to let me know that we even "made" their new demo, which is on their website mystic-image.com. His wife Lana also runs the business and shoots and she was great to work with too. We also booked photography and are waiting to get those back. We spent a little bit more on the video because we had a lot of friends and family coming in to town and we knew we were going to have a great party. Their price is higher than other videographers we have looked at, but I can already tell that it is the single best investment I made on my wedding day. Hope this helps. Sorry for the rambling. Stacey
