Mixing BM Dress Fabric

The dresses are already ordered, so it's a little late now, but I guess I can obsess anyway. My BMs picked out their dresses this weekend. I let them pick any short or tea length style from one line in the same color. We ended up with chiffon, taffeta, and satin dresses. I compared the fabric swatches and they looked pretty good in the same color, but now I'm kind of worried. Are they going to look totally mismatched?

Does it matter?  I say that because my BMs all have the same dress they're wearing different ways, but all their accessories are totally up to them.  I was concerned about it at first, but then realized that I really don't want them to look like clones and really like that they can inject their personalities and individual styles into the day.  I think it'll make it more fun and individualistic. I was concerned because I was getting some flack about it from my MOH.  She's worried that my sister's flamboyant shoes will stand out embarassingly and that another friend's turquoise jewelry will clash with the red flowers I want.  I told her that I don't care and told her that she'll likely be the only one without makeup.  It's totally her choice and I want it to be that way.My point is, you're stressing unnecessarily.  Your girls will look great and feel great in the dresses of their choice.  That's the most important part.  Of that particular part of the wedding, anyway.  Besides, like you said, it's too late now.

I think that, so long as they ordered from the same dress maker, it should be fine.

I've seen a lot of pictures with mix n' match fabrics for BM dresses, and I think they look beautiful.  I think it'll add some awesome elements to your photos, and it will make your wedding unique!  Plus, all of your girls will obviously be comfortable and relaxed because you gave them choice in what to wear.  :)I agree with PP, no need to stress over it, I'm positive they'll look great!

Good :) I thought it would be okay, but my mom and a lady from the store were questioning it yesterday.

I actually really like the idea.  I was thinking about just having them pick out whatever brown dress they wanted, but once I showed them all the VS convertible dress, they all loved it.  Otherwise, I totally would have gone with that. I saw another wedding where they were all wearing different dresses in the same color family.  They looked beautiful.  Don't let the store lady get you down!  Your girls will look and feel great!

I think because you are having a summer wedding it will be fine. However, when I went with my BM, I brought my dress with me and tried it on with her.  When she stood next to me in my silk gown in a flowy taffeta dress, it looked pretty ridiculous.  It was then we agreed that satin would work better for my fall wedding.  I was glad we did that because that was a dress she loved and probably would have gotten.  Not that it would have been the end of the world, but it is something to keep in mind.  Light fabrics in the summer though will be pretty.

I agree with Stephie. It will be okay since you're getting married in the Summer. Just keep in mind about Taffeta. It is very LOUD.

Oh and I realize your question is will the different fabrics work together, and I think they will just fine.  I'm just letting people know that in some cases, it does make a difference.

My BMs dresses were in the same fabric but were different dresses in different colors, and I really like the way they looked together.I think the same color in different fabrics will be cool. You aren't having a cookie-cutter wedding, so there's no need to have cookie-cutter bridesmaids.

Oh and sorry to keep postwhoring but I also learned how differently the same colors look on different fabric so that is also something to keep in mind.  Especially whites/ivories--they all looked like different colors to me when I was dress shopping until my consultant explained it was because I was seeing them in different fabrics.

I appreciate your point, Stephie and do agree that the dresses should compliment the bride's dress to a certain degree.  I think you guys also have the right idea that the formality of the wedding should play a part, too.  I didn't think about that earlier. I still don't think you need to be worried about it, Marissa.  Since you have so many different fabrics, it'll likely look purposely mismatched.  One taffeta dress in the middle of a bunch of chiffon would look a little off, but several different fabrics should look just fine.  Also, since you have more than two BM's, it will be just fine.  My sister had two of us and we each tried on a different dress in the same color but two different fabrics.  It did look a little weird.

I think in the end we had two taffeta dresses, two satin, and two chiffon, so I guess it will balance well. Plus, my gown is taffeta and pretty "dramatic" in itself, so I don't think any of the dresses will look crazy with it.Thanks for the advice :)
