How much alcohol to order...

I'm trying to price alcohol and am looking at the evite drink calculator. I dont want to run out of alcohol but I dont want to order too much either. We estimate buying for 80 people, and are buying wine, bottled beer, and champagne for the champagne toast. I'm thinking 15 bottles of champage for the toast. Our event would be 4 hours of served alcohol, how much would you all plan to have? Evite says 40 bottles of wine and 200 bottles of beer for 80 average drinkers, this seems like a lot!!

It's hard to judge how much people will drink.  Do you have a bartender or even know a bartender?  They might be able to help you.  Sorry, I know I wasn't much help at all.  =)

You know your crowd. On average 5 glasses of wine per bottle, that means 200 glasses. So wine plus beer plus champagne means 6 drinks per person. Sound right to you?You could always buy more and then return it.

True I could always order more and then return it, but in all likelihood it would never get returned, just drank during the holidays!! :)

As long as it's alcohol that you'll drink it's not bad to have leftovers.  You could always give a bottle of wine as a gift to friends during the holidays.

I'm having the same dilemma so I plan on asking my bartender.  They'll know better than anyone else.

Yep! I'm doing the same as Navy. Not only do I not know how much total...but I don't know how much of each.

My bartender gave me estimates based on the number of people I am having, our preferences (red over white wine, etc) and how much we drink in general. I am going by what she says and then a little more.

It also depends on what type of drinkers. For instance, we definitely have a bigger beer crowd, and not so much of a wine crowd. Also, one recommendation we took, and I did not regret; We skipped the champagne except for us (and anyone who specifically wa to drinking it (since it was extra per bottle) and everyone just toasted with whatever they were drinking.

My venue says they use the evite calculator so I guess we will go with that. Thanks everyone!
