Cheap DJ alternative?

Looking for some suggestions.  I know everything I want for a playlist at our reception.  I only have a few announcements that need to be made.  I do not need any sort of entertaining DJ.  Quite honestly I would be happy with an ipod, speakers and wireless mic.  Any suggestions for alternatives? Thanks!

Some DJs have equipment that you can rent and hook an Ipod up to. I believe my DJ does this but i'm not sure on the pricing you can check it out on his website: http://www.rhythmpro.com/. Also, you may want to check out the DJ All4you their rates are under $1000. I went to a small wedding where the bride and groom did the Ipod thing which didn't go over so well. The music they picked to be played was only appreciated by the couple who got married and consequently it was struggle to get other people to dance.

I actually thought about the iPod with speakers idea, but then I was at a wedding with a bad DJ and when there's a bad DJ (not necessarily bad music)-the evening doesn't go very smoothly. The DJ is also the MC, so they really help the flow of the evening, announcements and such. Also, my DJ mentioned that there's a formula for DJing a wedding-you can't start off with recent pop music or no one will dance, you need to warm them up with some classics and slow dances to get them going, then you can play whatever you want-something I didn't really think of.My DJ is really reasonable too-Paul Natale from Murray Hill Talent. He prides himself on not being cheesy or intrusive. Remember that you can always negotiate pricing if your budget is tight, especially if you're wedding isn't on a peak day/time.

I used TKO Entertainment from Riverside, RI and they have different packages depending on how involved you want the dj to be. They did a great job and the price was right, $495, but that was their 2006 rate I booked at so I'm not sure of their rates now. Their # is 401-383-9333.
