white or ivory candles?

What are you using? Our reception venue is a traditional gold ballroom and I think that we would want ivory candles...?

Re: white or ivory candles?

  • If your dress is a whiter color, you could do either, but if it leans on the ivory side, I would definitely go with the ivory candles because you don't want anything to make your dress look dirty, not white, etc. I also think ivory is more romantic and helps to set that mood better! I hope this helps! :)
  • Honestly I think it's one of those things that really don't matter. And I disagree with pp, I don't think having white candles at the venue will make an ivory dress look dirty.
  • I have an ivory dress and I have compared a LOT of white items to my ivory dress. I went kind of color crazy for awhile with the shades of white. But in reality white and ivory together don't look bad at all. I also don't think whether the candles are white or ivory are going to matter.

  • If you were to line up candles in white, ivory, ecru, eggshell, and beige, and then asked one hundred people to name the colors, ninety-nine would say all five were white.  The one hundredth person is a graphic designer or a bride.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • aerin, that was great! You are so right. OP: you're overthinking this. If you want white candles, get white candles. If you want ivory candles get ivory candles. But DON'T begin to think that your dress will make a difference. No one, NO ONE at your wedding is going to hold up one of the candles to your dress and think "Boy chamber'd dress sure looks dingy compared to this candle!"
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • Thats what I thought, what ever it the cheapest is what I will use. So, who has a great place to buy bulk candles? We cant have open flames so my dad is hollowing out candles and then we are placing the battery ones inside. Thanks Ladies!
  • That seems (the hollowing out candles thing) like a lot more effort than it's worth. I bought bulk votives at candles4less.com, the candles were great, lasted more than 10 hours.  I can't remember where my mom got the battery candles that we used for our lanterns, but google it and you'll be sure to find good places.  I know that you can also buy pillar candles that are already hollowed out for the fake tea lights, I saw them at a restaurant here in NYC and didn't realize that they was fake (and they was right in front of me on our table!) for most of the meal.
