# of Invited guests vs. # that actually come to a destination wedding

Generally speaking, do any of you know how many guests actually come to a destination wedding vs. how many were invited? Thanks!

  • I don't think there's an exact percentage, but on average I would say less than 50% actually attend a DW over a traditional. This greatly depends on your family and friends, do they have money to spend on the trip, or would it be tight financially to make it? In the beginning, many ppl will be on board and say that they are coming, but ultimately not everyone can make it and that's the downfall of the DW. We wanted the small intimate wedding with close friends and family, so it worked for us. We do wish that some family members and friends could attend, but we knew some wouldn't going into this. I invited 120 people and we have 34 attending if that helps.
  • I don't think there's an exact "average".... I do agree with Gina though that its generally less than half. We sent out 80 STD's and we've got about 35 that have booked their cruise. HTH!
  • Like pps have said there really is no average.  It not only depends on your guests but also your guest list.  ie.  You invite 30 of your nearest and dearest, much better turn out percentage than if you invite 200.  That being said, we decided to do the same guest list for both our AHR and DW.  We invited 200 and 31 are coming.
  • Ours is just about 50/50.  We invited 60 and 39 RSVP'd yes.
