Dress

Hi Ladies, I'm going to start dress shopping in the next month or so and was wondering where you've been/bought your dresses and what the price ranges of the dresses in that store were. When I look at places online it's really hard to get a feel for what the stores are like. Thanks!

I went to Modern Bride, Marry and Tux, and David's Bridal.  I think on average, the dresses at MT were a bit more expensive, but the customer service was better.  I think the range I saw was about $800-$1100.  At MB there were dress from $300 up to about $1200.  And  a lot of the prices there include some of the alterations.  David's bridal is generally cheaper and their prices are online.  I think of the three, they had the worst customer service.

I went into all three of those stores with a budget: David's Bridal was horrible....they brought every dress style I didn't want. Modern Bride is good, they have a decent selection. I bought my dress from Marry & Tux...I loved the professionalism from them! Excellent customer service and alot of help!

I bought my dress at Davids Bridal ($899)- I went there on a Tuesday and found a dress within 5 or so trys. When I went back on Friday to try it on one more time - they brought me the wrong dress so I asked her to bring out the right one, but I tried the 'wrong' one anyways... well, thats the one I ended up buying LOL!The employees there are not the most knowledgeable/friendly people on the planet - but it worked for me. I wouldn't recommend their fitting services - they over book and the small room in the back (at least in Nashua) gets crowded quickly - I witnessed MANY bridezilla moments! Almost had one myself haha. The nice thing about Davids is that when you buy your dress there you can get discounts on other stuff, like your veil, hairpiece, bridesmaids dresses, mothers dresses ETC. I've gotten a bridesmaid dress and my mom got her dress for my wedding at Marry & Tux in Nashua and their prices (at least for those things) were reasonable - just a bit pricier than Davids.Good luck!

Madeleine's Daughter in Portsmouth is a little higher end in regards to designers.  I would have to estimate $1000+ for their gowns.  I bought mine there at a trunk show for $1600.

if you're on a tight budget like i was, i'd suggest bridal stock exchange in Seabrook, NH.. my dress was originally over $1000, but I got it for $500 and it was made of silk and  was definitely high quality.. they're very hit or miss, as they sell floor samples and things like that... and b/c of that, you have to buy a dress as is, with no choices in color or anything... but if i had to do it again, i would have made the same choice!i would also say not to go to davids bridal in nashua... their customer service is HORRENDOUS... one day i was in there with my family trying on dresses, and there was a woman screaming about her flower girl dresses that she needed for the next day and how they still weren't done even though they had been promised... and their alterations are ridiculously expensive to begin with.. by all means, if you find a dress there that you love -- get it! but i would go elsewhere for alterations.

I also love the service Marry and Tux! I didn't particularly like Madeline's Daughter even though I purchased my first gown there (too pushy and didn't really listen/help me much). We found my Mom's dress at Modern Bride and really liked it there. I've also heard wonderful things about Sposa Atelier in Salem. My best advice is to go around and check the places out and avoid weekends if you can! They're super busy!

I ended up getting my dress at Modern Bride in Bedford. They were very nice all the times I went there. I also went to A Day to Remember in Concord and they were nice there too, a bit pushy but still very helpful.

I got my dress ($350) at David's Bridal - in Springfield, MA - it's where my MOH lives, and I went looking with her.   I've heard nightmare stories of the Nashua location, but I wouldn't generalize that to all the locations.  My dress was the first one I tried on, and I instantly fell in love.  My consultants (yes, two were looking out for me) were very helpful, and not at all pushy, but factual - my dress was being discontinued, so I had to buy it then, and bring it home with me that day.  They explained the situation, but NEVER pushed me into making a decision.

I don't know where you live, but I live right on the mass border, and went to 125 Bridal. They are great! The service is excellent and they are very helpful. My dress was discontinued, so I got it for 50% off (which ended up being about $600) but it was two sizes too big so I paid another $350 for alterations. Depending on where you go though, you should look there. They deff. aren't too busy and their seamstress is so nice and has done a great job on the alterations! They aren't like designer dresses, they are more on the affordable side.
