Anyone else doing brown and blue?

We are doing mostly a tiffany type blue with brown accents.  I think I'm just going to do contrasting gerbera daisies.  My question is, will the groomsmen look okay wearing black tuxes instead of a brown suit?  There shouldn't be too much brown on the bridesmaids...

I think black goes with everything when it comes to formal wear, so yes!

Personally, I hate brown and black together. I equate it with nails on a chalkboard, lol.I REALLY like the idea of a brown suit!! I think its a bit more unique and will look really sharp given your colors. However, if you keep the guys in black and have them wear blue vests or ties (or both) instead of brown, it could still work.Orrrr...they could always wear tiffany blue tuxes...with ruffled shirts ;)

Bimbi - I would agree with you on EVERY other occasion other than men's formalwear :) I've seen some really classy black tuxes with brown or navy vests - it works (for me)!!

LOL LS! See...I think that ESPECIALLY if you're going formal you shouldn't mix black and brown/navy. So linds&coop, were you planning on having them wear black with brown? Or some other color?

We are!!  My BM dresses are all chocolate brown and the tuxes will be black with brown vests.  We had initially planned to do brown tuxes but once I saw them in person, I really didn't like the look of it...just didn't look right to us or the look we were going for.  Besides, I love the look of a black tux, so we quickly ruled out brown.  I've been to a few weddings this year with brown dresses/vests and thought it looked fabulous :) Have you been tux shopping yet?  I wasn't sure on the combo either until we picked out the vests we wanted and they put them together at the tux place and we put a BM dress next to it...after seeing it all together, all doubts were gone!  HTH!

We had brown BM dresses and the guys wore black tuxes and orange ties. I didn't have brown anywhere on the tuxes, but the BM and GM looked good together. I think there are some pictures in my bio. As a side note, I have several brown and blue padded hangers for sales. PIB

Haha.....thanks ladies!  I actually questioned it because I too, have an issue with brown and black, and navy and black together.  Must be our mothers doing!!  Can't wear a brown belt with black shoes....etc.  =P

At my friends wedding they did black tuxes with brown vests and I loved it so much I really wanted to do it for my wedding so that was my color scheme at first but my FI wanted the whole black and white theme so that's what we are going with now. I normally HATE brown and black together and navy and black but honestly it looks really sharp together with the tuxes! And have you noticed lately for some reason clothing designers are trying to put black and brown together in everything? haha

I think black and brown, and black and navy, in theory, sound bad.  But like PP's have said, it actually looks really nice. I've been to several weddings with brown & black, and I've seen navy and black in pictures (and the tux shop - I'm doing black tuxes & navy vests) and it actually does not look bad at all.  They look nice!I have never seen brown suits at a wedding, but it seems a little less formal in my head.  But it could look nice.  It seems like it might be a little more work to track them down.  Either way you can't go wrong.  But don't worry about the black & brown not looking right.  It will look great!  :)

I forgot to add - I like the idea of the brown vests over the tiffany blue vests.  I don't remember if you mentioned it or if someone else did.  Regardless, the tiffany blue vest seems a little too bright for tuxes.  A little too prom-ish.  I think the more subtle brown will look really classy.

I did Tiffany blue vests and it worked out great for us.  Not too "prom-ish" at all.

Our colors were brown, red, and ivory. The groomsmen wore brown tuxes with an ivory shirt and vest, and a red tie. I also wore a tea-length dress, so our attire was a little less formal. But I personally don't like brown and black together, also DH was the one that wanted brown tuxes. I think it'll be fine if you do black tuxes. Just don't go with a blue or white..

YES!! Loveand3D(etc), ^ That is exactly what I was picturing when I was thinking of a brown tux/suit...I think it looks really classy and unique! And LS, that's exactly the look I was picturing with the blue vests...I would def do that over brown vests...linds&coop, another thing you could think about is if your FI looks better in brown or black.

I did think it still looked classy! It's still a tux after all. I love the color brown, and I think the brown tuxes just matched everything perfectly. The bm dresses were red, and they matched the gm's ties. I think if you were doing brown bm dresses though, then brown tuxes might be a lot of brown. If there isn't a lot of brown on the bridesmaids, I would think a brown tux would look better.
