First Steps?

Hi everyone,

I've just recently joined the site. Just got engaged this past August. Was wondering what some typical first steps are re: booking vendors. What vendor do you recommend I lock down first?

Thanks everyone!!!!!

    Hello, welcome and congrats!

Assuming that you have your budget set and a good estimate of your guest list, the first step is definitely to book your ceremony and reception venues. This will determine your date.

Once you have the date, you can book your officiant and photographer. These are usually the vendors that can book up as much as a year in advance.

The other vendors - cake, flowers, DJ, limo etc. - usually require much less time.

    Good luck!

Book your venue first, they normally have a limited no. of weddings that they can handle at any given time -If you plan on marrying in a church this should be your first stop!  After your church you can look at venues for your reception.   Be sure to get any favorites booked - if you have used a DJ, photographer or limo in the past that you wish to work with again I suggest you book them early so you wont be disappointed.  Remember the really good ones get booked early.
Then you can start to think about your bridal gown and your attendants dresses.  Once you find your dress and your girls dresses you can start to think about the decorating and flowers.
