Second Weddings

ok, 6 days til the wedding and thinking I should have hired a videographer.....

I am in need of thoughts on this...

here is my thinking.....I am going to be on such a high, a whirlwind of emotions...will i even remember my vows to man i adore and love so much...??

I found a video guy thru my photographer....our wedding is from 11-4  he will do 11-3 unedited 1 camera for 350     or 2 camera's, edited same hours for 650

I know nothing of him, other than a recommendation.....

yes, no??  r u having one and why???  Help!!!

If you really want it AND you can afford it, and it will make you happy-- fine.
If this is a matter of last minute second thoughts about choices- take a deep breath and relax.  Your thought process when you were more than a week out probably made real sense.
FWIW, I did not have a video and am glad of it.  We have looked at our photos maybe twice.  And the memories I do have are not the minute by minute but rather the emotional memories of a wonderful day.  I remember not the words of our vows, but the joy I felt in hearing them.  I don't need a movie to remind me of that, even 5 years later.  ~Donna

I agree with Right1 - take a deep breath.  My 1st wedding was videoed and we only watched the ceremony twice.  I think we watched the reception with all the dancing and silliness a couple of other times, but that was within the first 2 years we were married.  It sat in a box after that.

    FWIW here are my thoughts:

On old videos in general: Sometimes it's the only time you can "see" a dear departed family member other than still photos. I say this because my brother passed away in 1972 and we have no video of him as a youth. However, my cousin took a bunch of old family 8 mm flim to someone and had them put on VHS, then dvd's and sent all of us one. There, intermixed with the "non-chronological" films was my brother as a baby, maybe 5 months old. It was breathtaking to know this existed.

On wedding videos: My parents are both 80, I'm now an only child, and my two kids are their only grandchildren. We have video dvd's of their 50th anniversary party, so I don't need updated ones. However, if we did not have those, I probably would pay for a videographer because I'd want my kids to have those videos to show THEIR kids.

The price you were quoted seems really reasonable. I can't make the determination for you whether it makes sense or not. But if you have older family members attending, you may not get another chance to do this, as people take less video today, and rely on digital cameras and still pics. I wouldn't care to see video of my wedding, but it would be everyone else I'd care about.

    Just my 2 cents.

I think if it is within your budget and they are available on your date, then go for it.

RELAX - it will all come together just fine, and congrats on getting married so soon!

If you can afford it and really want it, go for it.  That price is dirt cheap, at least here in the DC area.

We are not having videography.  We simply cannot afford it.  At a minimum of  $1,200 for bare bones videography -- closer to $2.5K - $3K for what we'd really like -- its just not happening.  That is, unless the video fairy flies overhead and drops off a little something for us.  Hee hee!

    Enjoy it!  Why not?

    Debi,
    This is a great price!
    WHO is the videographer?
Remember don't use SHOOT THE BRIDE FILMS, many of us who used him (22 couples to be exact) have had a super hard time getting our videos many months after our weddings. Some girls are still waiting after 9 months.

I think if you can afford it you SHOULD do it. You do forget things because of the whirlwind of the day, and at that price, I would go with the unedited version, then you will have everything. No need for fancy edited video, but the raw film will remind you of everything and you can hear and see your vows, and hear your music.

We loved watching our video, (when I finally go it) there were many things in it I didn't remember at all like the husband and I high fiving at the end of the isle when we were married.....and lots of other moments too.....

YOU MUST BE GETTING SOOOO EXCITED!!!!!

This is the ONLY reason I kept my first wedding videos.  I haven't looked at them in YEARS, but I know they're there if I want to look at them.

I really want my wedding to be video taped so I can see what I know I'll miss, but I refuse to pay that much money for one, so I'm trying to find someone I know that we can borrow a video camera from. I don't need all the fancy editing, just the recording of the ceremony.
They didn't have you where I come from...never knew the best was yet to come...

well, it is a professional videographer ( by recommendation) who works for a company but is doing a side job....thats why the price is so inexpesive....

It is not from "shoot the bride" that name is inscibed in my head!!!!!  Isn't the guys name Larry???

His name is Adrienne.....and he has worked with my photogapher for many years....but now they work for different companies... but are still in contact and work together often....

the price is good, i have checked around for awhile.....and it cannot be beat unless we have a freind do it for free....which is an option, but we then take a chance on poor sound and video.....

I have a video of my first wedding on VHS....edited and non edited....(in those days you got both) and i watch it every cpl years.....for the people who are in the video...and the laughs, and my dads ridiculous speech that lasted 15 minutes.......

my mom passed away and to me that video is priceless!!!

i have wanted one since we hired a photographer but the price tags of $1000 and up for a half way decent video package exceeded our budget, that at this point is completely gone to hell anyways.....so...whats another 350-600...lol

thanks, as usual for the insights, thoughts and comments!!!  I love tyhis board!!

    5 days !!!

DO IT!! DO IT!!  DO IT!!!!

I don't know if you saw my post with these two videos, but something like this is one MAJOR reason I want a videographer:

Check out the video embedded this article:  http://www.stylemepretty.com/2010/07/26/li-xiaopeng-and-angels-wedding/

    Hey Debi,
I am soooooo excited for you, I know how thrilled you are to have found the prince you love so much and deserve!!!

I really am happy for all the ladies here. It may have taken us a long time to find "the one" but it makes marrying him that much sweeter.

The Shoot the Bride guy is Jeff Manimbo. I feel so sorry for so many of the ladies that used him. Some are still waiting after 9 months and the creep won't communicate with anyone. Many of the couples have no choice but to file suit.

Have fun this week! You will be in my thoughts over the weekend.

Best wishes,  I hope all of your wedding dreams come true!

You should really do the video at that price!!!!
