How would you do Marie Antoinette with all the luxury, opulence, details etc., just with less frill and... "girly girl"? I don't want to turn her into a cougar or anything but...I love the over-the-top ritz, the pink, the satin etc. It's just that all I can find on the net is wayyyyyy too much of the same petit fours + predictable baroque inspired candels + rose petals everywhere.I love all that stuff or I wouldn't be taking pointers from the queen of frou-frou herself however... any ideas of how it can be put together differently??

Although not true it is said that she said the famous, "and let them eat cake!"You could so incorporate the cake theme with desserts, etc. When I googled Marie Antoinette images it came up with pics of her in a very luxurious aqua/turquoise/teal colored dress.You could definately do like a teal and black theme with gold accents, but very luxurious in your ribbon details. Also try searching for masquerade ball or Baroque inspiration.Do scroll menus/invites, or place cards with a feather attached. You could have boroque style photo frames for the table numbers or centrepieces that incorporate ostrich feathers. Look at Amy atlas's blog for desert buffet inspiration, you could do a "let them eat cake" sign next to the wedding cake.Keep pink as an accent and use Silver or gold as a main colour to keep it from being too girly???

You'll definitely want to include a dessert bar with lots and lots of different flavors of macarons. Laduree was the official macaron-maker for the movie version of Marie Antoinette. I think having an opulent dessert buffet would be just the icing on the cake, so to speak. Or you could do a pile of sweet treats on each of the tables as centerpieces, maybe put them on a cake stand or something. I also like the teal and gold with maybe some ivory too. Maybe a masquerade ball look with masks as the favors (something tasteful, not the cheesy plastic ones). Candelabras on long banquet style tables and a lot of lower candles too. Good luck with everything though!

Use blue since that was traditionally the girly color (and pink was the masculine color) during that time and today's society wouldn't even guess that was actually the case. What do you have in mind? You've mentioned what you don't like but what do you like specifically from that era? What draws you to her?
