Unique venues?

Hey girls I am new to wedding planning!!! I want to wait two years to get married ( getting heat from my family but what can you do). I am a very creative person and want a space that I can really design all on my own. Its becoming hard to find a place that will let me have a dj and an open bar ( not just wine and beer) Let me know if you all have an suggestions I would really appreciate it. Thanks and good luck with all your wedding planning!!!

MSfarge, I am not sure where you are looking that won't let you have a dj and an open bar because that is pretty standard. Creating things to decorate your space is not cheap. Fabric and draping can get expensive. I am creative and the venue where I got married allowed me to hang lamp shades over the chandeliers. I made those lampshades and hung them the day of my wedding. As I wedding planner, I don't advise people to take on such projects because it gets too stressful the day of, you are running around and you should be relaxing. What do you want to do to the space? What is your budget and how many people are you planning on inviting?

I am looking at some places in towns that you can just rent the space and it comes with tables and chairs. I am a little flexible on budget but I have about 112 people on my guest list. Im confused and stressed any suggestions would be great.

Flexible on budget does that mean 300/person or 60/person? Do you want a raw space that will let your bring in your own caterer? Where have you looked so far?

yes i need to bring in my own caterer b/c my finacee works for a place that does catering and one of his coworkers said he will do it for free we just have to buy the food (which we can get for cost at a local retailer) so i just need a spot i can rent. It would be more cost efficent if it came with tables and chairs. Otherwise I can do most everything ourselves ( we have a lot of people willing to help) thanks

I love the De Seversky Center. If I had found out about it before booking my place, I'd probably be having it there, but oh well! http://www.nyit.edu/resources/restaurant/index.htmlAlso look into libraries, parks, museums, etc.

I would suggest the Port Jeff Village Center, its on the water and there are 2 rooms you can rent one hold up to 120 people for only $700 I think it is a very clean space it's a beautiful industrial looking building. It comes with tables and chairs and you can bring in your own catering. My mom rented it for a suprise 80th for my grandma and it worked out great, if I was having a smaller wedding I would look there. Also Martha Clara Vinyard in Riverhead/Jamesport area has a great big barn you can rent.
